About this deal

So, it’s pretty common, right? The Casio F-91W. After all, we’re talking about a watch that has been in continuous production since 1991 and, according to Casio’s estimation, boasts an annual production count of 3 million units. However, we’re not here to talk about the ’91’ today. What you see here is its lesser-known twin, the Casio F-84W. When I say this is the most retro digital watch Casio has released in almost 34 years, I'm not kidding. The F-84 has perfect mid-1980s digital styling. It has the older thinner model text, the "Lithium" word to promote the fact it has a lithium battery, and the alarm graphic right below that to promote the fact it has an alarm function. If you thought the F-91W was as retro '80s as it got with Casio digitals (which it never was since it was intoduced as a 1991 model), you were wrong. The F-84W is the king of the hill. The only thing more retro is a late 1970s era Casiotron model!

HOWEVER - I also found (for even cheaper) the F84-W listed. Looks kinda cool, but I know nothing about it. So, after rambling on about all this stuff when I should have probably just said..... It’s really comfortable on the wrist, and the strap is even softer and more supple than the strap on the F-91W. I’ve never really had an issue with the rubber catching hair or getting too uncomfortable. What I Don’t Like

3. The ’84’ is only available in black…

You get the classic Casio digital display with day and date readouts as well as the ability to switch between 12 and 24 hour modes. Combatant status review board for Mohammed Ahmad Said el Edah". The New York Times. October 6, 2004. A "W" after the model number designates the watch as Water Resistant. Some models (like the F-87) exist with and without a W, and differ in the look of the crystal. The US government became suspicious of Afghans who wore Casio watches due to their ability to be used as timers for improvised explosive devices, a tactic favored by al-Qaeda. [11] [12] Compared to the F-91W, the F-84w is smaller, thinner, and lighter. The display is roughly the same size, but the body of the watch itself is smaller than the F-91W. Casio F84W on my 6.3″ wrist

I think that after many years of searching and finally having located it, I can take the confidence to affirm that I am the sole owner of a Casio F-91W model Made in Japan demonstrable with photos, and I can affirm that Wikipedia makes several errors in its Information about this model. The time or date is adjusted by pressing the lower left button three times to bring the watch to time adjustment mode. The top left button is used to cycle through seconds, hours, minutes, month, date, day and normal mode. The right button is used to adjust the flashing value displayed. Unlike any other value, the seconds can only be zeroed. Should this happen before 30 seconds, the watch will zero in at the beginning of the current minute. After 30 seconds it will start the next minute as displayed. When the adjustments are finished, the bottom left button can be pressed once to return the watch to normal mode. My wrists are about 6.3” around, and the F-84W is just the right size for me. If anything, it’s actually a little on the small side. Another bonus of having a JDM watch strapped to your wrist is that you’re more likely to attract the right kind of attention. Those who know, know. Those who don’t, won’t. It’s as simple as that. Pop a Rolex on your wrist and you’re likely to attract ALL kinds of attention. As you’d expect, the F-84W is incredibly small and thin even for a digital watch. This thing seems to be tailor-made for small-wristed wearers.Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) model. Uses the same 593 module, but the case's design is more similar to the older F-28W and F-87W. It has lugs instead of an embedded strap. Need I say more? There’s always that added ‘Wow!’ factor when you put on something that you know could only be found in Japan. Being a bit of a car guy myself, the appeal is the same when you spot a car meant for Japan and Japan alone being driven around in Malaysia – we’re talking about cars like the Toyota Mark X or Crown and not those reconditioned lux-minivans. And if you’re into the vintage design as much as I am, then you’ll get a lot of mileage out of this inexpensive watch. Before we go any further, I'd like to apologise in advance for my awful photography. I'm not a photographer, and I'm still learning. So, once again, apologies. The right button, labeled "Alarm On-Off/24hr", is the function button: when used, it starts and stops the stopwatch, changes the settings currently being adjusted, or switches between the 12- and 24-hour modes, depending on what mode the watch is currently in. Pressing all three buttons at the same time will fill all the cells on the LCD until any button is pressed again. [10]
