About this deal
Obviously, premium models will provide the softest feel because of their urethane covers but, there's a catch, with these particular golf balls the most expensive on the market. It's the least bright ball that I currently have to compare it with but every other ball I have is a urethane ball (with the exception of the Diablo Tour that I have purely for comparison sake). For someone like me, who likes a firmer feel on wedge shots and with the putter, it felt a bit too soft.
Having tested the two types of ball side by side on the short game area at my club, the amount of spin generated by the TP5x ball was noticeably greater. That also does mean that this is up there as one of the best golf balls for players with slow swing speeds who are looking to get the ball up into the air and smash each shot longer distances down the fairways. This, I would say, is purely down to my launch conditions where I find I get maximum distance with my driver from lower spinning golf balls that work best to negate the high spin I generate as a result of my steep angle of attack. In testing, we found that there was improved distance and durability without any sacrifice of the feel and short-game control. Do you want to get as much distance as possible out of your golf ball or would you prefer a model that allows your short game to flourish thanks to improved feel? The low spin rate means that it doesn’t get the height I’m usually after and the trajectory feels a little dampened. For any high handicap players out there looking for a new pack of balls, this is definitely an offer you should check out. The fact that this is up to the submitter’s discretion is why the construction and the qualitative spin attributes on the list are pretty much worthless for the sake of comparison. So, if you like a soft feel on chips and putts, or could do with a few extra yards, courtesy of a low-compression core, our guide to the best soft feel golf balls could be just the ticket.
This not only results in inconsistencies between different OEMs, but sometimes between different model submissions from the same OEM even though they share the same construction. With that said, however, the ball is very durable and won’t see many scratches or marks during a round of golf. Also, balls with low-compression soft cores will feel softer off the face on full shots, with the added rebound properties of those soft cores also potentially helping those with low to average swing speeds hit it a little bit further compared to firmer-compression balls.
And, most importantly, when it comes to shots around the green, this baby delivers an outstanding soft feel.
