About this deal

audio input, touch controls, 5-band onboard graphic equalizer with 4 available pre-sets (you can also fine tune the EQ to your liking), bass reflex port, carrying rubber handle, USB charging port (for mobile devices), micro USB firmware update port and a 2600mAh lithium-ion removable battery pack which can power the Exos-9 for up to 9 hours (if 9 hours is not enough for you Aiwa has a 4400mAh 12-cell lithium-ion battery pack available with which the Exos-9 can keep on going for up to 18 hours). While I’m not personally the biggest fan of this particular design from an aesthetic point of view, I can appreciate the versatility that Aiwa has created by designing this speaker so that it doesn’t look out of place indoors or outdoors. and supports aptx, aac and sbc codecs, it is also future proof thanks to it's mini USB for future firmware updates.

I find for best bass efficiency is to place the speaker around 3ft away with its back to a wall to allow the bass port to circulate air efficiently, as recommended by Awai themselves. I was after a portable Bluetooth speaker that I hoped would deliver Hi-Fi quality audio which I knew would be a big ask. The Aiwa Exos-9 is a large and loud 200-watt portable wireless Bluetooth speaker known for its ability to play loudly, both indoors and out. This driver configuration results in some interesting sound presentations, which we’ll discuss further below.Keep it plugged in at home or enjoy up to 9 HOURS of incredible unplugged sound with the included quick-swap Lithium-ion battery pack. This being said, inside the package you will find the cables necessary to use the speaker, including an AUX cord, which will come in really useful, if you will be listening to this speaker together with your friends. Editor’s note: We have improved this review since its original publication, providing a more accurate and detailed account of this speaker’s performance.

For those that want music to be more than background noise, for those who want their music to have the power to entertain. Even with the impressive 100dB volume, the Exos 9 still falls a few decibels short of the JBL PartyBox 310 when it comes to measured volume output but does perform better than the JBL Boombox series in this regard. At its release, the connectivity offered from the Exos 9 felt more than par for the course, but it has started to show its age, especially as we’ve seen a multitude of new Bluetooth versions in recent years, which have improved latency and connection distance. The speaker being bluetooth, you will also be able to use it with Tidal and a smartphone, which should make the experience really sweet. The sound profile on the Exos 9 is tuned very much towards a bass-dominant profile, which is great for parties and typical social gatherings, but isn’t the best when you’re just looking to relax with a drink and enjoy some music. The housing is entirely made out of a High Quality ABS Plastic, with polyfill stuffing inside to increase the box volume.
