About this deal

Music being “In-phase” is what we hear. A combination of alternating wavelengths brings about noise or complete silence. As we looking into destroying speakers, we need to keep in mind that the best option is to go and speak to your neighbours first. How To Break Speakers Without Leaving A Trace Active Noise Control One way in which Jam has kept the price of the Symphony down is to finely hone what it’s about and what it does. This is a Wi-Fi speaker. It doesn’t have Bluetooth and there’s also no battery. A tone generator is an electronic device that artificially creates sound frequencies in the form of an electrical signal and then converts it into sounds. It is also referred to as a signal generator.

There’s no doubt that the Jam Symphony is an at-home, non-portable speaker. It’s going to spend its life on a shelf or worktop, not trekking around with you on your hols in the way of the Jam Heavy Metal. You can rest the Jam Rhythm on its side, or sit it upright – there are discreet rubbery feet on two sides to stop it from slipping. The logo on the front turns swivels to ensure it’s the correct way up to match the speaker’s placement. You can alter the sound output to suit: upright mode switches to mono, while the Rhythm plays a stereo feed on its side.

Does it work with Apple Airplay?

Only a synthetic edge to the mid-range betrays the perhaps humble quality of the hardware, but I’ve heard far more expensive speakers suffer from similar issues. The Jam Rhythm’s wireless reliability wasn’t perfect during testing either, but seemingly only because it didn’t get on too well with our Netgear Nighthawk X4S router, which has caused problems with other smaller-brand wireless speakers in the past. This speaker’s standard setup procedure is simple and clearly explained – and if you have any issues, the speaker also supports WPS pairing.

A few such niggles aren’t a surprise for a new wireless system, and while the software isn’t as polished as that of Sonos, it’s entirely fit for purpose. Some patience may be required during setup, though. Crank the volume and you’ll eventually get a touch of hardness out of the Jam – those handclaps get a little too snappy – but the reach of the overall sound means you’re less inclined (metaphorically at least) to twist that dial. It’s hard to complain too much at the price, though, especially when the sound is otherwise generous, smooth and clear. This is a great party speaker. Side-by-side with the Rhythm, I think most will prefer the Symphony’s fun tone – although personally I have a little more affection for the smaller speaker’s unusual tonal balance. Should you buy the Jam Symphony?Wait for your neighbours to play some music. Wait until they are truly enjoying the loud tunes coming from their speakers. This is the right time to set up your noise cancellation device. We didn’t find the Jam Classic to be the most captivating of performers, noting that if your aim was to boost the audio of your smartphone, “the JAM Classic 2.0 does enough. Just.” Three stars was our indifferent verdict. There are some quirks in the software, too. However, for a brand-new budget multiroom speaker family, the Rhythm works well. Does it matter? The Jam Rhythm isn’t a speaker designed to be the focal point of your lounge; it’s a speaker for which you might consider unseating a few Bill Bryson books on your bookshelf. It’s small and it will blend in. It isn’t beautiful, but nor is it ugly. There are a couple of special features, too. You can turn the Jam Rhythm into an intercom, speaking into the app through your phone and out of the speaker. Party MC, perhaps?

The first step is to locate the exact position of your neighbour’s speakers in their house. Place the antenna and amplifier near that location but on the outside of their house. The optimal location will result in the effective destruction of the speakers. You’re all set up and ready for the destruction. Speakers work on unintentional electromagnetic interference. Normally, speakers would play “in-phase”, which means that the sound coming out of them are both on the same wavelength. We call this constructive interference. When a frequency consists of two wavelengths on alternating patterns, they are referred to as “destructive interference”. These wavelengths are 180 degrees out of phase. If there’s one thing the Jam Symphony forgoes to pay for that relatively low price, it’s the build quality. This speaker doesn’t feel flimsy and it isn’t unattractive, but neither does it offer the glamour or solidity of most speakers of this size. You will need to bring out your tone generator and generate a tone of 10 Hertz. Starting the tone generator will allow the amplifier to amplify the AM signals and an electrical pulse of 10kHertz will be emitted. The 10kHertz will be emitted from your neighbour’s speakers, enough to essentially destroy the speaker altogether. We had a few router-specific issues with our Netgear test router during setup. It was a minor nightmare, but it worked just about perfectly once we’d switched to an Asus router. Jam Audio told us it is working on the Netgear issue. A mid-test firmware update has hugely increased reliability, but there are still sync issues with our Netgear router. The app is where the important features live. Aside from the frivolous intercom feature, which lets you use the Symphony and your phone mic like a loudhailer, the app is mostly all-business. After confirming that your mobile device is connected to your home WiFi network, open the JAM WiFi App. If your speakers still cannot be found, please continue to the next steps.
