About this deal

While this process is not always straightforward, I am optimistic that we are moving in the right direction as long as we have people with us. To bring communities together, and to create much-needed welcome in our societies, it is crucial that we center the voices of those with lived experience, especially when it comes to leadership positions. By providing space for growth, support, and meaningful involvement, we can better incorporate lived experience in our work. Last Friday, nearly 40,000 Queenslanders descended upon the Southbank Parklands Precinct in Queensland’s largest welcome event. In the heart of Brisbane they symbolised hope and creating welcome for new Queenslanders in the annual Multicultural Development Australia Luminous parade. The real answer is who you welcome into your home. Like last Thanksgiving, when I had a motley crew of friends who also couldn’t make it home for the holiday for one reason or another. Some were like me and couldn’t manage the cost of flights, some didn’t feel welcome with their biological families, some were just happy for a second serving of turkey. Creative uses of the spirit and power of welcome will keep guests wanting more. Welcome a welcoming strategy into managing each guest experience and welcome the referrals, repeat business and additional income which will make more business welcome!

We all have a purpose in life and that purpose is simpler than one may think. Our purpose is to simply exist as who we are. That is it. There are so many ways to use the power of welcome as a business strategy and key facet of exceptional service delivery. Keep the following tips in mind and consider developing the welcome thought process: Michael and I were wandering around Toulouse a few weeks ago. I was recovering from a difficult hair cut (so many ordinary things are difficult in a new language) when we stumbled upon a small art gallery, just closing. In the window was a sculpture. A barefoot child, her clothes ragged around her body, stands on a tree trunk. She is surrounded by crows: crows sweeping down on her, on the ground around her, perched in her hands. The face of the child is quiet, gentle, peaceful. I could have watched her forever, but it was late, and we were hungry. We left her and her birds behind us and wandered down the charming small streets to find dinner. Yet somehow, she came with me. I found myself haunted by this piece long after the trauma of the haircut had been shampooed away. Brown, Helen (28 July 2023). "Sian Gibson interview: 'I've become addicted to clairvoyants. It's like therapy' ". The Daily Telegraph . Retrieved 28 July 2023.

Train all your staff in phone etiquette. It's a good idea to help all employees develop good welcoming skills. Besides answering calls forwarded to their desk, any one of them might answer the phone after hours. Teach them how to project a positive image over the phone, as well as the mechanics of forwarding calls.

The sculptors who created her might have been saying this. They might have been saying something else. But they were surely offering us something about what it is to be human. Joan Coderch and Javier Malavia sculpt the human form, and their deep passion is to create the expression of emotion and values in bronze. They are fundamentally co-creative, using their four hands for each sculpture as they move through the artistic process. You can see more about them and their work here. They have named her (or him, or they, as this sculpture conforms to no gendered norms) Scarecrow, after the Wizard of Oz. Perhaps this is the world my friends and I are trying to make as we live in this experimental way in our big communal home. So much we are facing into is frightening. Even inside the boundaries of our peaceful grounds, there are plenty of crows. We have invested money together, are trying to maintain a big old property together, are (mostly) lost in a new language together, have uprooted at least some part of our lives and our identities together. The scary things swoop and caw all around us. But when we hold out our hands to those scary things, and when we hold out our hands to each other no matter what we are facing, our fears become less fearsome. Together, we make the scary things beautiful.

And yet. This is the world as it is. The sculpture asks, what would it be like to open to all of it? To make new sense of the pain in the world, and to hold that in that pain is the possibility of healing, of connection, of creation, of kindness. How would we treat each other if we understood our fundamental connection with one another, with all living beings, with our own shadow and light? What would it be like if we could look our fears and difficulties in the face with compassion, with love? What would that world be like?

Written communications which confirm reservations in advance of any property or venue visit, whether for business or pleasure, can also begin the welcoming process. Add a welcoming statement to correspondence which confirms guest and business plans and begin establishing a special feeling and mindset for each pending visit. What does it take to make a house a home? And why is it so expensive? No — sorry, that’s the wrong question. You’ll have to forgive me, but I discovered extensive water damage in my house this week and a neighbor’s tree fell on some power lines. They’re replacing windows now — it’s been a lot! Our wonderful country and society is built on migration and a multitude of faiths and cultures. The starting point should always be welcoming those that have come across the seas for a new start. That’s the welcome my family and I received and we will be forever grateful for it.It’s the welcome that so many received last Friday. The two main approaches we have adopted have been raising the profile of refugee contributions, to counter negative narrative. And championing and celebrating the power of welcome. Here’s how we’ve put these strategies in action: Stories of welcome Look, I get that if you run a blog there’s always going to be some level of self-promotion involved if you want to grow your readership, but I believe there’s a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it.

Aim of the reading challenge

Make answering the phone a top priority. The typical receptionist is often loaded up with other responsibilities—especially in a smaller office—so that a ringing phone becomes an unwelcome distraction. Make sure everyone understands that there is no more important administrative task than making clients feel welcome when they call. Don't cause your receptionist to lose sight of that priority by adding too many other duties. Design: show us your students' ideas! Design a building or construction (either realistic or fantastical) reflecting all the different ways nature impacts their ideas. Cooke, Rachel (26 July 2023). "The Power of Parker captures the particular quirks of Nineties northern England". New Statesman . Retrieved 28 July 2023. With your class watch or share the welcoming video from our partners, Turner & Townsend, which explains the challenge and introduces ideas and questions for students to consider. Read: explore how nature is reflected and celebrated across the globe with iconic buildings and structures.

When dining, hosts and servers should welcome guests in addition to serving them and understand the value of making guests feel at home while eating a meal. Telling the stories of the refugees we support and sharing the success of the new RISE programme in a way that helps shift public perception to be more positive is the role of the comms team. This was the twelfth Luminous event and included, indigenous elders, migrant and refugee communities, primary and high school children, unions, churches and the wider community. There were over 40 different multicultural communities present on Friday. Hire the best receptionist you can afford. It's worth paying extra for a really good one. Your receptionist should be a people person who easily engages in conversation and makes others feel comfortable. This individual not only takes your clients' calls, but should develop a relationship with them, immediately making them feel important when they call.

My house has never felt so warm as that day — and that’s what we’re exploring this month at Grotto as the fall air starts to turn. The warmth of hospitality, the power of welcome, and stories of people who have taken truly radical steps to extend it to the most marginalized and neglected. Give attention to how your office impacts visitors. Imagine yourself in the place of a client visiting your office. What kind of impression do you think the client will take away from that experience? Does the receptionist offer a warm, friendly greeting? Is the receptionist anywhere to be found? What kind of immediate impression does your lobby convey? What about the rest of your office? Assess what improvements need to be made to make a client's visit more positive. In 2020, we spotlighted refugees and asylum seekers working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic. From Anxhela, a refugee junior doctor working on the covid ward of a north London hospital, to Mohammed, who organised food parcels and delivered them to his vulnerable neighbours in Manchester. As the entire country was affected by the pandemic, these stories were particularly impactful for creating a human connection over a collective issue we were all forced to experience. Jusic said: “Being a child refugee is a very confusing, isolating and lonely experience. I hope this book not only helps other children understand the power and humanity of welcoming refugees but also helps other child refugees like myself feel less alone.” What a lovely exploration Jennifer. While I'm doing an inventory of my favorite art pieces :-) I thought I'd share my reflection on yours, about stepping into our fears. As adults who have settled into our way of being/living, we don't often seek out a challenging situation, something that would deeply unsettle us and make us question our very way of being - and yet, you all have done that. I think there's a question inside us about "What might I be missing in the human experience, that I might like to experience in this time-bound journey?"
