About this deal

Refrigerant dehumidifiers tend to be louder than desiccant models. On its normal setting, the Ebac 3850e has a noise output of 46dB. This is relatively loud and you probably won’t want to be in the same room while it’s running.

It’s worth noting the 3850e is particularly good at room temperature or above. When the temperature starts to drop, however, it becomes less effective. This is to be expected with a refrigerant dehumidifier, but means it’s probably not the best choice for garages or unheated rooms. Most dehumidifiers set the humidity preference either as a specific % of humidity like we saw in the Honeywell dehumidifiers or a set range like we saw in the Delonghi dehumidifiers. However, not every model from the brand that does better on average is a Best Buy, so it's not a straightforward choice. It is important to note the capacity of the water tank when shopping for a dehumidifier, as most manufacturers incorrectly advertise the extraction rate as the capacity. For example, the Ebac 3850e is advertised as 21L, however, this means it is capable of extracting up to 21L per day but the unit will auto-power off once the water tank is at full capacity (2.5L).The dimensions of the 2650e are 34 x 54.5 x 26.5cm (WxHxD). It’s not the bulkiest dehumidifier we’ve reviewed but it’s also not compact – especially in terms of height and depth. For comparison, the smallest desiccant dehumidifiers can be almost 10cm thinner and shorter. This isn’t a complaint, as the large water tank and powerful compressor naturally require more space, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you want to place the machine in a small room. The Ebac 3850e dehumidifier is an excellent choice for large homes. It can rapidly remove large amounts of moisture from the air (at least at room temperature or above), while minimising energy usage.

It’s rated to extract 21 litres per day at 32°C and 90% relative humidity. At UK temperatures the machine will extract a lot less, but enough to control the humidity of a large family home as described in the paragraph above. As with all refrigerant dehumidifiers, the machine will extract less and less water as the temperature drops, so try to keep your home above 15°C to get the best out of it. Having said that, Ebac say that the unit will keep working down to 3°C and as you’d expect, there’s an automatic defrost setting that will switch on with increasing frequency as the temperature drops to maintain the efficiency of the unit. Automatic defrost. If the coils start to freeze, the 2650e will automatically defrost while minimising wasted energy. Having two fan speeds that are selectable through the main menu is great for noise control, as if the noise is ever bothering you, it’s easy to turn the fan down a notch and drop a lot of the noise that comes with the greater of the two fan speeds. In Air Purifying mode the dehumidifier stops extracting moisture from the air but continues to pull air through the unit where it is filtered The second of the modes, ‘max’, turns the unit on to maximum dehumidifying power and the unit does not stop dehumidifying no matter how low the humidity gets. It also utilises the faster of the two fan speeds to ensure maximum extraction takes place. This function is ideal for drying laundry or a particularly damp room as it will extract moisture as fast as possible by driving the humidity levels lower, pulling more moisture out of wet clothes or walls. We’ll talk about how the laundry setting utilises the ‘max’ mode later in this review. So you can expect your dehumidifier to last a long time, whichever of the two brands you go for. That said, if you're disappointed with the performance of yours from the start, you might find yourself replacing it long before it gives up the ghost. Ebac dehumidifiers prices and features Ebac ranges Meaco removed all plastic hoses from its dehumidifiers in 2019, on the basis that many people don't use them and they end up in landfill. The Meaco Low Energy Platinum range comprises refrigerant models with capacities of 12 litres to 20 litres. But which are the best Ebac dehumidifiers? And is this a company you should trust? Let's find out. Who Are Ebac? On the plus side, the Ebac has a front loading water container. We always prefer models with this feature, as it allows you to empty the dehumidifier without moving the machine. Portability
