About this deal

This third installment of what has quickly become my favorite Urban Fantasy series played with some of the narrative threads explored in the previous books and moved forward in a very intriguing and quite satisfactory way, offering the by now familiar mix of humor and drama while at the same time delving deeper into some of the main characters, bringing to the surface a few unexpected facets of their personalities. So how did I find myself checking the video doorbell from work to see if this blue jacketed, slightly mirrored tome had reached the damppebbles residence? Meanwhile Vincent is behaving oddly - even for him, as his obsession with finding his deceased wife consumes him, and Stella just wants to get on with the job - which means tackling her first Loon Day! It was recommended to me by my dear friend Ev at the most perfect time in my life that I needed to laugh. His debut novel, A Man With One of Those Faces – a comic crime novel – was published in 2016 and spawned The Dublin Trilogy books and the spin-off McGarry Stateside series.

We can have all the hilarity and madcap scenes each book dishes out, but that intrigue is one of the master strokes of this series. His TV writing work has seen him work on some of the biggest topical comedy shows on British TV, such as the The Sarah Millican Television Programme, Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You.I'm not sure if you'd be able to read this as a stand alone but I would seriously recommend reading The Stranger Times and This Charming Man anyway. Caimh’s imagination seems to be limitless as the reader is literally taken on a journey of smoke and mirrors. The characters all become familiar in a very short space of time and so much so that you are rooting for them all the way through.

There were shades of Stepford Wives, the Prisoner, and Harry Potter thrown in, (but JKR threw so much in, it’s hard to avoid her). With a motley crew of staff, the newspaper is considered by many to be nothing more than a rag, a joke to society. Floating statues, hijacked ghosts, homicidal cherubs, irate starlings, Reliant Robins and quite possibly several deeply sinister conspiracies; all-in-all, a typical week for the staff of The Stranger Times. Hannah has gone back to her husband, Betty the new assistant editor is stranger than your average journo, Grace is up to her ears in an audit, Stella is struggling with her new powers/career/past and Banecroft is .

I was pleased to pick out the ‘correct’ fictional conspiracy theory, which sub-plot was excellently put together.
