Previous to this, the show was not simulcast on BBC HD, but shown on BBC HD 30 minutes after the BBC One airing. And the rat-a-tat-tat of punchlines was as impressive as ever, the studio audience only audibly groaning once when Lucy suggested that “bruschetta” was Italian for an affair (“well, it means a bit on the side”). To be fair to Sally Bretton, she did wince as she delivered the punchline, and there’s a nice rapport between audience and actor in moments like these. In Series 7, neighbour Toby ( Hugh Dennis) lies to Lee, saying Lucy has had a date, after which Lee tells Lucy that he loves her and asks Lucy to marry him. She agrees and they marry in the finale of Series 7; Tim Vine makes a brief guest reappearance. In the 2015 Christmas Special, Lucy gives birth to her and Lee's first child.

As a team captain on the seemingly eternal Would I Lie to You?, the real Lee is every bit as punchline happy as his fictional counterpart. Because it stops all of the new comics who could be doing it. As long as they are doing lots of shaky camera, nuanced, whimsical stuff and not making sitcoms, then I’m all right.”
