About this deal

A 58-degree wedge will provide most players more forgiveness over a higher lofted wedge and will also give them more consistent distance control.

I personally use 56 (high bounce) for most shots around the green and carry a low-bounce-wider-soled 60 for everything the 56 cant handle. Overall, three wedges is an easy way to always ensure you have a 'perfect club for a specific yardage inside the 130 marker, but the reality is a lot of pros only have 2 wedges outside their iron set. If you do a "Pelz Grid", essentially about four tempo-driven swing lengths, and 4 wedge options, you get a consistent distance grid of 16 yardages, and 11-13 won't overlap. I just don't see a huge benefit adding another wedge (for me YMMV) as my LW doubles as a SW, of course I replace it more often due to increased wear. What Howard said is correct (of course, it's Howard), plus the gapping question is mostly prominent in gap wedge; most pros will opt for a 60 degree lob wedge rather than 58 if using 4 wedges so a 55 or 56 slots in there nicely. Its also a question of what loft you prefer on the shortest clubs, but you can always compromise, and go 51-55-59. is used for full shots from 100, 54 is used for full shots from 75 and long pitches, 58 is used for most shots inside 30-40 yards. I am a decent driver, an ok putter, and my improving handicap is directly attributable to getting better options inside 165 yards. But if you're going from vokey wedges to vokey wedges, the new distances shouldn't be hard to figure out. Different sole grinds can raise the contact point higher or lower, which would change spin rate and launch angle, which would also change distances.

I have to remember to sometimes hit a little harder with the 60, but it's nice because I get more spin and less rollout. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. I genuinely cannot tell the difference in loft looking down at the club and I find that it gives me more consistent distance control on full shots.I was possibly thinking about adding a 55 degree wedge to have 5 degrees apart (50, 55, 60) if you can't tell I have a problem.

Does anyone use a 50, 54, 58 Wedge Combo? - GolfWRX Does anyone use a 50, 54, 58 Wedge Combo? - GolfWRX

Hitting from the senior T's and being a little longer than most of my competitors I'm usually pretty close. Lofts and its effect on shot making are so personal, that there really isnt a general rule for these things. The lob wedge can be a tricky club to play with, but many golfers want to be like Phil Mickelson so they're desperate to put one in their golf bag. So, I assumed I would need the 52° to get distance separation between the two because of equal shaft length.

Pro - in theory, you can have more distance options without needing as much "feel" Con - you can't have as much at the top Most dudes that hit it long but want the P+3 will ditch a 3-wood. A 60 degree wedge is also useful if you are playing on a course with fast greens and want to generate the spin necessary to get the ball to check up. For me the pros of having 4 wedges was the variety of bounces and having a more concrete set of distances for full shots.
