About this deal

Navigate in the “ batch tool driver” folder, then “ SP_Driver_V1524” folder. And run the “ DriverInstall.exe” driver installation file Choose the flash_tool.exe application and wait a few moments for it to load. You can ignore any warning or error messages that may show. Really, it takes a step up from some of the other handhelds that just aren’t all that great to play, even if they look good. Most of all, Since Valve released their Steam Link APK and since Moonlight (for nVidia Gamestreaming) is a several-years-mature app, I've been having a blast playing games (with 1440p resolution on the host machine) from my PC all day today, when at home. Next step is experimenting with VPN'ing so that I can do the GRID-gaming that nVidia hosts, instead with my own machine at home, but that probably won't be as pleasant.

The XP is reported to run Android 11. While it’s unknown what specific launcher GPD will use, from leaked screenshots it appears to be similar to the GPD XD Plus’s design. PSP is the most impressive because those games have nice graphics and many if not most play at 45fps+ First and foremost, this merchant was extremely responsive, replying to my messages the same night I wrote them. That is worth its weight in gold, I find, when dealing with any kind of embedded system and when dealing with import goods. GPD claim a maximum size of 2TB, but seeing as how 2TB microSD cards do not even exist (on the consumer market) at the time of writing, the validity of the claim is anyone’s guess. Please Note

Press the Install Driver button and wait for the drivers to be installed. Once completed press any confirmation buttons to complete the process and exit the program. Most Android games will run fairly well on this device, even if it isn’t the best. It comes with an MT8176+PowerVR Hexa-core processor, 4GB RAM, and 32Gb Storage, all of which sounds impressive but it doesn’t perform as well as it should. The OS is really what keeps it from shining as it should. On paper and in practice, the XD Plus worked very well but felt a little underwhelming. This handheld should have been a game-changer, but to this day it still has that marmite ‘love-hate’ factor. The max frequency of this processor is 2.05GHz. GPD may also perform some additional under-the-hood tweaks, although this is unconfirmed as of now. GPU IMPORTANT: This guide is for the GPD XD+ (Plus) only, NOT the GPD XD. Do not attempt to install this on the GPD XD as it may cause irreversible damage to the device!

Many other Android titles are capable of supporting the GPD XD’s physical interface, and for those that don’t, you can use the button mapping software to bind on-screen controls to real buttons on the device. It’s quite a clunky process the first time you try, but it soon becomes second nature, and is easy to enable thanks to the fact that the feature has its own physical button on the bottom section of the unit. One of the main problems that the GPD XD 2 needs to overcome is the firmware it uses to play the vast catalogue of games available to it. If you’re reading this breaking news article while walking across a train line or crossing a road, then find somewhere safe to sit and take a load off because the content of this story could change retro gaming forever! Update: The GPD XP is confirmed to feature 128GB of UFS2.1 storage. This is noticeably faster than eMMC storage, which should translate to a smoother user experience all around. The first boot time will be longer than usual as the operating system is updating. Please wait until you see the PlayOn menu screen

Second, the release date! Right now, DroiX expects to receive the first batch of GPD XP’s on approximately the 5th of November 2021. But given the condition of the global supply chain currently (with shortages and delays affecting pretty much every industry), we would allow a grace period of a few weeks from that date. Hold the V+ (Volume +) button and continue holding it down while inserting the USB cable into the GPD XD A lot of people wanted to see a touch screen or dual-screen layout on the GPD XD 2, but we’re confident that this won’t be happening. There’s no real need unless you’re playing DS/Switch games, apart from maybe having the map of the world that you’re exploring on the bottom. But as most games aren’t set up for 2-screen action, we’re going to debunk this rumour right now. Charging The GPD XD Plus excels at Android gaming. It can handle the latest games such as Call of Duty: Mobile and favourites such as Space Marshals and Stranger Things: The Game. There is a vast library of games to play on the Google Play Store which you have full access to.

Second, the product itself is solid, thus far in my own testing. The software environment is a little odd to get used to. For example there are three different flavors of SNES Emulators out of the box, and they all have different input configurations, the most obvious choice also consequently being the worst (imagine A and X being reversed with B and Y while trying to play Super Nintendo games ...). They were all in English, though, in case you're looking this product up after seeing Linus Tech Tips' product review. As expected, the GPD XP can handle a variety of Android games comfortably. It is also very competent at emulation, being capable of handling GameCube, PSP games, and even the odd Wii and PS2 game here and there. [19/10/2021 Update]: GPD XP Release Date, GPD XP Unboxing, and more… It might even be able to act as a power bank for other USB-C devices too – now that would be something. WiFi Capabilities Update: GPD have confirmed that the launcher is the “GPD Metro UI” launcher. Likely to be extremely similar if not identical to the launcher seen in the XD Plus/

The GPD XD Plus is powered by a Mediatek MT8176 processor running at 2.1Ghz, the graphics chip is a PowerVR GX6250 running at 600Mhz. There is 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. The storage can be expanded with a MicroSD Card. The XD Plus has supports 2/5Ghz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. The XD Plus has sold lots of units since its release and has enjoyed relative success, but we know that GPD can do and must do better. For a console with a similar price tag to the Creoqode Lyra, it has to be on top of its game not just on release day, but two, three, and even four years afterwards. The third and final module is the “FPS controller module”. This acts as a midpoint between the two prior modules, providing four buttons that can be mapped to button presses at different locations on the screen. The GPD XD Plus runs on Nougat, which is already an outdated system that is being updated, but it won’t be updated for that much longer. Once the updates stop, it is going to be a really big problem unless they can come up with a solution. You may soon experience major frame rate drops and longer load times. Hopefully, they will come up with a way to stop this problem. At first glance you’d be forgiven for assuming that the GPD XD is a Nintendo product, such is its similarity to the million-selling 3DS range of handhelds. It’s clear that the designers have simply ripped off the design of that clamshell system, even using largely the same arrangement of physical inputs – including the two additional shoulder buttons introduced with the New Nintendo 3DS. While the GPD XD is an excellent way to play Android games, its focus is undeniably retro in nature. It runs pretty much every emulator on the Google Play market flawlessly, with only the Saturn emulator uoYabause proving problematic – and that can hardly be considered the fault of the system, as that particular app is still very early in development. 8 and 16-bit consoles are replicated nigh-on perfectly here, with the NES, SNES, Mega Drive, PC Engine, Game Boy and Master System all running at full speed with sound. Moving into the 32-bit era, PlayStation emulation is near-faultless, as is N64. The button layout on the XD Plus was pretty good in all honesty, though it felt a little cramped, almost as though the designers didn’t want to encroach on the space where their touch-screen might have been if this were a DS. Update] DroiX are now expecting the first batch of GPD XP units to become available at some point around the 5th of November, 2021. Give or take a few weeks, given the poor state of the global supply chain as of now. [09/09/2021 Update]: GPD XP Gameplay Footage
