Unikitty looks delightful in her classic space garb, doesn't she! As you'd expect, her face and body are printed. I hope we learn from the movie what role Pink Classic Space minifigs play – I hope it’s something cool. Maybe Engineering? Despite being adept with old space technologies, he is unable to decipher more modern ones like those in Business' computer room. Or, they are just unable to decipher him.

The characters included in the set are illustrated on the top of the box: Robo Emmet, Astro Kitty, Benny, Space Wyldstyle and Robo Pilot. Like many LEGO fans, this set caught me quite off guard, especially the inclusion of Lenny, the pink Classic Space minifigure.

For those that are unaware, each Classic Space minifigure colour denotes a specific role that each Spaceman specialises in: In the human world, when "The Man Upstairs" is looking for his X-ACTO knife, 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! is placed on a table by "The Man Upstairs". The 'classic space' era, 1978-1986, was a time when many of today's AFOLs were kids so the original sets hold a special place in many people's hearts including, it seems, the writers of The LEGO Movie who gave a classic space minifig Benny and his spaceship star billing in the film. Now it's my turn to take a look at the third, perhaps the most anticipated set of the year among discerning AFOLs: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!, to give it its full name.

The fourth astronaut is named Jenny. Her white suit appeared in 1978 and few alterations have been made. This helmet is more robust than the original design and the printing on the torso seems brighter than that seen on the earlier version, although that might be a partial result of age. Nevertheless, these minifigures are excellent and they come with a selection of traditional equipment, including a wrench, a radio and a metal detector. The second build is another familiar sight for fans of Classic Space – a simple two-seater Lunar Buggy. This is the second time Charlie Day did voice work for an animated film, as he previously voiced Art in Disney and Pixar's Monsters University.

Parts

In the Movie, The large missiles to Benny's spaceship are fully gray. But in it's set form, the head of the missiles are yellow. Benny's trademark in Master Building is anything "big, blue, and pointy"--as Bad Cop puts it--and compatible with technologies from the 1980s. In the recent trailer, it’s shown that in the sequel, his right arm has been replaced with a prosthetic metal arm, which indicates that his real arm was most likely lost during the invasion. Benny was among the most popular characters to appear in The LEGO Movie from 2014, as one might expect given his origins in Classic Space. This magnificent subtheme has remained iconic across four decades, inspiring great excitement following the announcement of 70841 Benny's Space Squad!
