About this deal

Unlike Stainless Steels Galvanised Steels have a problem, in that the galvanised coat will start to break down if left outside in the garden. Non ferrous metals don’t contain iron. Some examples of widely used non ferrous metals are: copper; aluminium; tin; lead; zinc; titanium as well as precious metals (gold, silver and platinum etc). Non ferrous metals are used because of properties such as malleability, low weight, good conductivity and high resistance to corrosion/rust. You can now apply the Etch Primer to the substrate, only the thinnest coat is required and a second coat is not necessary. Once applied the Etch Primer needs to be left to dry, both to allow the etching process to work and to allow the evaporation of the solvents contained within the paint. All Etch Primers need to be left for a minimum of 24 hours at a temperature of 18 - 20 degrees Celsius to dry properly.

Generally, etch primers do not require sanding, and 1K primer (high-build or otherwise) is usually spayed over the top before preparing the panel to receive the colour coat. Etch primers are the only primers suitable for use directly on galvanised panels. A primer usually acts as some kind of protective or preparatory coating. Different primers can have different purposes. This often depends on the surface to which it is being applied. In general a primer does one or more of the following: Each of which will provide the right basis for your paint restoration project. Spray primers & etch primers This should be repeated at least a further two times to ensure that the surface is clean and free from grease and dirt.

Red oxide primer protects against rust and corrosion. Use it on ferrous metals likely to be exposed to the elements especially cold air, damp and humidity. It is widely used in the industrial and agricultural industries for structural steel work, outdoor equipment and railings, gates etc. Etching Primer is used on non ferrous and galvanised surfaces to help with adhesion of subsequent coats. Etching primer effectively ‘eats into’ the ‘galv’ (without completely removing all the zinc protection of course), to prime and protect the surface at the same time. You should always keep the primer away from fire as it is highly flammable and the can may explode if it gets too hot. No matter what kind of paint is going to be used, use the recommended multi purpose primer with the appropriate thinner (where applicable – ask for advice at your local automotive paint store). Mix them according to the directions, then stir thoroughly. For primer, adjust the spray gun so the spray pattern is about 200 mm wide, 300 mm from the gun head.

So primers and undercoats do serve different purposes. You may find some coatings that are suitable as both primer and undercoat for certain jobs or surface types. Always ventalate your work area - Good ventelation is nessasery when woking with aerosol spray paint not only to clear the fumes, but good air circulation helps the drying process. Can create a barrier where a surface has chemical properties (such as high alkaline content) which might react and affect application of the top coat It contains acid which etches the surface (creating a physical and chemical bond) and promotes adhesion of subsequent coats. Etch Primers only start to work after they start to dry. It is therefore beneficial to only use the thinnest coat possible. Degrease the surface to be primed with the strongest solvent available. In most cases this will be PQ17 Pre Paint Metal Cleaner for all metal surfaces and PQ19 Pre Paint Multi Surface Cleaner for fibreglass and resin mouldings.

What is primer paint when it comes to your vehicle? Primers are the most common undercoats used when refinishing car bodies. They’re used to build up and level feathered areas or rough surfaces and to provide a smooth surface for paint. Primers have several unique characteristics: Wait for the first coat to dry for about three minutes before repeating for a second coat. You may also want to do a third coat when the second coat dries if you think this is necessary. Hold the can 20-30cm away from your surface and spray, moving the can from side to side, overlapping slightly. It's a good idea to keep the same distance as this will help the primer apply evenly. It gives a layer of protection before a top coat is applied and will still adhere to surfaces that already have traces of rust.Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. They work by turning porous surfaces into a smooth, adhesive base upon which paint can be applied- and they’re great for enabling the painting of cars and vans. About our primer paint products It should also be noted and remembered that all Etch Primers do not start to etch until they start to dry. Applying Etch Primers
