Who Gives A Crap is an online store that sells eco-friendly toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, and other household items. Founded in 2012, Who Gives A Crap was created to provide an alternative to traditional toilet paper and paper towels that are made from trees. The company is committed to using sustainable materials, such as bamboo and sugarcane, to create their products. Of course, some brands do use recycled materials, but incredibly this has decreased over the past few years, despite a strong rise in interest in environmentalism, recycling and finding alternatives to single-use plastics. COVID has undeniably propelled this decrease with the use of single-use masks and PPE, along with a rise in single-use coffee cups and other utensils in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.
However, WGAC are looking into non-whitened bamboo toilet paper which is exciting and encouraging. Are Who Gives A Crap sustainable? Both toilet roll types produced by WGAC are whitened, but as mentioned, this is done without bleach. However, you still have to use some kind of chemicals, which require manufacturing and factoring into the production process. Not whitening toilet roll altogether is a more sustainable option. These are the benefits for consumers and the environment, but it doesn’t stop there. The brand is doing big and impressive things with its business model to help the people who most need it.
