About this deal

The lighter your current shade, the brighter our hair colour will shine. At this range, your hair will be more welcoming of a broader selection of colours. Since 1981, La Riche has established itself as one of the worlds leading Hair Dye brands. They have Pioneered bright and bold colours, unique shades and tones, and soft pastels, making them one of the most respected brands. Directions are made in England and loved all over the world. Directions Hair Dye Apricot has never been tested on animals and has a vegan formulation. Now that you know your current shade, you might need to make some adjustments to make sure you achieve the results you want from your new hair colour. La Riche Directions Apricot (88ml) is a stunning and user-friendly semi-permanent hair colour. The easy to follow instructions and simple application process help you create the ultimate look with ease. At my appointment, Jo and Louisa Moore, who’s worked at the salon for four years and will be dyeing my hair, discuss which shade of apricot will best suit me. Apricot as a hair colour encompasses a palette from warm coppery reds through to lighter strawberry blondes and Jo and Louisa plump for a shade somewhere in the middle. As Louisa mixes the L’Oreal hair dye (permanent – well, in for a penny, in for a pound) I’m not nervous in the slightest. In fact I’m quite exhilarated by it all.

At this range, we would highly recommend using our Lightening Kit or visiting a professional salon to get the best possible base for amazing results. After 20 minutes under the dryer Louisa washes out the colour – then adds a vegetable dye, which actually smells of apricots, for extra shine and vibrancy. We're proud to announce that our mailing bags are made from recycled polythene and are also recyclable, and our bubble wrap is made from recycled plastic and is completely recyclable. Once your dye has developed, thoroughly rinse Directions out of your hair with warm water, ensure you rinse away from your face and body.

Jo Hansford is known as the queen of colour – clients include Gwyneth Paltrow, Liz Hurley and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – so I was confident I’d be in safe hands at her Mayfair salon. Darker shades may give a sheen of colour to darker hair but we recommend pre-lightening for the best results. Any harsh shampoos such as anti-dandruff, anti-ageing, or cleansers designed for oil removal, or any product which contains alcohol, sulfate and sodium. Additionally try to avoid washing your hair too frequently. Frequent washing will cause faster washout, which will result in faster loss of colour. For extra vibrancy, our White Toner removes those yellowish strands that bleaching can leave behind. If you want to go darker and infuse your hair with deep mysterious tones, we recommend taking it one shade at a time — and always asking a professional before making any dramatic leaps from light to dark. Once you’ve taken the plunge and gotten apricot hair, it’s a good idea to switch up your hair care routine, as color-treated hair requires special care. Your hair care routine starts in the shower with a system of shampoo, conditioner, and mask formulated for color-treated hair. Try the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Color Vibrancy Intensive Shampoo, L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Color Vibrancy Intensive Conditioner and L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Color Vibrancy Intensive Ultra Recovery Mask. Once or twice a week, swap out the conditioner for the mask, leaving it on your hair for 3-5 minutes after shampooing, then rinsing out. How to Style Apricot Hair Directions contains no peroxide, and is therefore best suited to use on light blonde or pre-lightened hair. This is because Directions’ vibrant range works best on hair that is a 9 or 10 on the colour shade scale. As a general rule, the lighter your hair’s shade, the more likely the colour you apply will be as bright and vivid as you intend it to be, particularly for lighter/softer colours.

To get the very best results from bright vibrant colours, like our zesty Fluorescent Lime, you’ll need your hair to be at the lighter end of the scale. If that is your goal, we always recommend using our Lightening Kit or going to a professional salon. We’ve had quite a few people in asking for apricot lately – and right across the ages,’ Louisa says as she daubs the dye on to my hair. ‘There’s a theory that blonde is flattering for women over 40 but apricot works well too as it’s warm and brightens up skin tone.’We’ve provided our own colour chart guide below that you can use to get a grasp on your current shade. As you can see, this is done on a scale of 1 to 10; 10 representing the lightest possible shades, and 1 the darker end of the scale.

Once the dye has been applied, ensure you wait a few days before washing your hair for the first time! Now that you know what goes into getting apricot hair, it’s time to actually, you know, color your hair! There are two ways you can go about this. You can visit a professional colorist or you can DIY it. Since apricot hair is very unique and features a variety of different tones within it, it’s a good idea to visit a pro who can skillfully blend your custom hue for a look that flatters you. A pro can help guide you from start to finish through the process of coloring your hair apricot, which is especially important if you’re making a dramatic change (such as going from very dark brown to apricot). How to Take Care of Apricot Hair Directions produce brilliant dyes, but in some rare cases it can go horribly wrong if the dye is not applied correctly! We've found our customers have the best results with these dyes when they apply the following procedure:
