For fans of Twisted Tales and Villains is a brand new YA series that retells the classic Disney stories you thought you knew from the Disney Princes' perspectives.

Eric is a hopeless romantic and appears to be quite dreamy, believing his true love certainly exists, but simply hasn't been found by the earliest points of the film. After being rescued by a mysterious girl with a beautiful voice, he immediately falls in love with her and makes it his primary goal to find her and marry her, feeling deep gratitude for her actions. Eric would later prove his commitment towards romance by risking his life at the climax for the safety of Ariel, proclaiming he's lost her once and refuses to lose her again. What I loved about this book is it took the story of the Disney film and added so many extra elements. The story is told from Eric's perspective. We learn that he too is cursed and can't kiss anyone but his true love or else he dies. New elements of Ursula's power are added and creates a much stronger world building than what we were given in the 1989 film. The Little Mermaid has been my favorite Disney movie since before I even remember watching movies. Naturally, that makes Prince Eric my favorite prince. I also joke that I suffer from "Prince Eric Syndrome", meaning the combination of blue eyes + dark hair is 100% my type. I married that type, so it must be true. The book's chapters' titles are references to songs from the animated film and its musical adaptation. There is one chapter title that is a reference to Return to the Sea. He then rescues Ariel and defeats Ursula with the help of Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Upon her defeat, Ariel reveals to Eric about her true identity, but he admits that it does not change how he feels. The romantic scene makes King Triton finally change his mind and let his daughter be with a human prince. Expert Rider: Eric is a highly skilled rider. I am always nervous when I read these Disney retellings because they're usually a miss but REST ASSURED, this one is not.And for me, it didn't quite work. Ursula is the main villain here, but Miller revises her character in a way that doesn't quite fit her portrayal in the animated film. There, Ursula is hell-bent on revenge against Triton for some perceived slight and subsequent banishment (of which we know very little) and could really care less about humans except as a way to needle Triton. In the 2007 Broadway musical adaptation of the Disney film, the role of Eric was originated by Sean Palmer and notably replaced with Drew Seeley after Palmer's departure. It is explained through dialogue that Eric's father has passed away, and it is Grimsby's duty to help Eric find a bride, so he can return to the throne properly, despite Eric's affinity for exploring the seas. Eric was cursed at birth and after losing his mother and learning of the secrets she had dedicated most of her life to hunting down, he's on a hunt of his own. Then he falls overboard and is saved by a singing mystery lady, and a "new" lady washes up on the beach no more than a day later. There is a lot he has yet to learn but he's sure about one thing, and that's finding the witch that cursed him.

In the 2000 direct-to-video sequel, Eric is a supporting character. Due to his marriage with Ariel, Eric is promoted as the new king of his kingdom with Ariel as his queen consort. Despite their happy marriage, the couple has a problem in protecting their daughter Melody from Ursula's sister, Morgana, who has sworn to avenge her sister and finish what she started. Fearing she will use Melody as leverage, Eric and Ariel erect a sea wall around the castle and raise her as an ordinary human girl unaware of her Atlantican roots. Melody distances herself from her parents as she grows up due to their rules against going into the sea. Prince Eric speaks the first non-musical line of The Little Mermaid is "Isn't this great? The salty sea air, the wind blowing in your face!" They just stray very far from the gothic inspired costumes, the weightless hair movements the cubic trees and the comical horses.
