About this deal

I didn’t use the extremes of the DPI range; 100 DPI was a bit too slow, even for a sniper rifle, and 5,000 DPI wasn’t needed on my 27-inch, 1440p display. You can also set up different profiles, but the mouse doesn’t have any onboard memory so you can’t take them with you.

To test the Razer Abyssus V2, I played a pair of first-person shooters with Battlefield and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Whereas the pricier Abyssus Essential maxes out at 7,200dpi, the Logitech G Pro pushes a cap of 12,000dpi. Granted, it's still in beta at the moment of this review, and it's bound to see improvements upon its official release, expected in June. The max of 5,000 DPI is typical but 100 on the low-end is a bit lower than usual, where mice normally bottom out at around 200 DPI. It's a suitable size for smaller hands, and the straight lines that define the right and left sides keep your index and middle fingers flat on the mouse, rather than arching them over a curve.wheel button and rotating it simultaneously which gives a clean look to mouse instead of adding a dedicated DPI adjustment button to it.

Better yet, given the symmetrical shape, the Abyssus Essential accommodates the often-neglected base of lefty gamers. You can even sync up the lights to your Philip Hue lights so your bedroom lights can join in on the fun. And despite the current incompatibility quirks with legacy Razer gear, Synapse 3 is robust and easier to use than the Corsair Utility Engine or Logitech Gaming Software.

Really, the only thing about its look that might indicate it’s built for gamers and not Excel jockeys – other than the pulsing RGB lighting – is the DPI button just behind the scroll wheel. This is pretty limited, and I'd much rather have the full color spectrum at my disposal than just three colors, two of which are shades of blue. You can pick between two to five stages, and you can customize each from as low as 100 DPI to 5,000 DPI. Also on the Performance tab, you can set the rate of acceleration for the mouse as well as its polling rate.Toss the mouse, unprotected, in a backpack when you travel, letting other objects chafe it, and you should expect to see some of these tiny chips emerge. Razer understands these requirements and has designed this fantastic Razer Abyssus Essential Wired Optical Gaming Mouse to meet your gaming demands. The mouse is somewhat like the old DeathAdder in terms of performance but has a cheaper, simpler design. You get no extra trappings beyond the personalization you can pull off in Razer's Synapse 3 software, such as button-function assignments, performance adjustments, and of course, tweaks to the RGB effects.

Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. The Abyssus mouse (yes named after another reptile that eats mice) features only three buttons if you count scroll wheel press as a real button. These mouse feet are designed to be slick, but Razer made them bigger than normal for this model, which gives them both good glide traits and decent purchase on your pad.
