Even after you have taken your last action, you are far from safe. The Outer Rim is full of danger and opportunity. At the end of your turn, you'll draw an encounter card based on your location. These encounter cards may provide new cargo or mods, help you make some progress on a job, or even test your skills for the opportunity to gain a huge reward.
Perhaps one of the most significant features added in Unfinished Business is the addition of the Core Worlds to the game board. Yet since its release in 2019, gamers have been clamoring for an expansion. Finally, 3 years later their wish was granted in the form of Star Wars: Outer Rim – Unfinished Business. Was this expansion worth the wait? Let’s find out! Expansion Overview: With your character and ship close at hand, you’re ready for your first adventure in the Outer Rim. On your turn, you’ll begin in the planning phase, and you're immediately faced with a choice of how to spend your time. Taking odd jobs around your current location earns you 2,000 credits, but prevents you from moving. Making repairs to your ship ensures you’re ready for a fight, but again anchors you to your current location. These options can prepare you for the encounters to come, but you’ll never become a legend if you don’t take to the stars. Your final option is movement, travelling along hyperspace routes from planet to planet in search of fame and credits. Once you have your new ship, you’ll need some things to fill it with. Fortunately, this expansion provides plenty of new gear, cargo, mods, and jobs for you to experience! Many of these cards have two assets: one on each end. These “rotating assets” have special features or represent 2-part tasks, and the rules for rotating them depend on the cards themselves. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. 2022 Board Game Award Winners Best Cooperative Game The wonderful part of Unfinished Business is that it brings in even more unknowns to the board game’s original set. You get to choose from more unique characters, which expands the universe quite a bit. There are eight new characters introduced with this expansion. That’s a fair number of new characters in a crowded room of cool characters to choose from. More the merrier. The first step in the game is choosing your character. Each player in the game gets to choose which character they want to play, which consists of some familiar faces, such as Han Solo, and can get down and dirty with bounty hunters and lesser-known smugglers. Whoever you choose to play as comes with a set of attributes, goals they must accomplish, and proficiencies, as well as a starting salary. Starting with the former, each character can have proficiencies such as stealth, tech, pilot, influence, strengths, and tactics. These can be doubled up when you add more characters to your player’s crew. If I added Boba Fett to my crew with Han as a leader, they both might have to pilot a ship as a proficiency, which means I have a strong proficiency in piloting. That will come into play when I play the game. You want to pay attention to these proficiencies, as they will be vital for success in the galaxy. They’re a wonderful addition to strategy in this game and directly related to rolling dice during combat. Well since than, we’ve put our heads together, tested games, and come up with a consensus.
Encounter Step – The active player resolves a single encounter, usually by drawing an encounter card corresponding to their space.Both favors and ambitions are fantastic additions to the game and provide serious ways of shaking up the gameplay. Just be careful—once you play using one or both of these optional rules, you may find yourself never wanting to play without them again! Business as Usual But before you begin your journey, you have to step into the shoes of one of eight iconic Star Wars characters, each with their own personal goal and ability. Han Solo may want to find the fastest ship in the galaxy, while Boba Fett is looking to bring in bounties dead or alive. There’s a lot that goes on in the Outer Rim of the Star Wars galaxy. More than can fit into a single board game. So, expansions are here. And that’s what we get in Star Wars: Outer Rim: Unfinished Business. The other optional addition to the game is ambitions. If the player completes all four objectives on this sheet, they win the game! You’ve made a name for yourself in the Outer Rim, but there is still Unfinished Business. Hyperlanes through the Core Worlds hold the promise of untapped opportunities. The market is flush with new merchandise, from valuable cargo to tools of the trade. Just watch your step; the latest crop of bounties is even deadlier, and your rivals are looking to take you down!
If I had to complain about something, it would be the amount of table space this game requires. I have a long IKEA table and it took a good chunk of space on it. My recommendation is to play this on a round table. It will work far better. This is my only complaint and honestly, it’s probably my fault for not having a variety of tables for the house. It may be just a modified YT-1300 light freighter for now, but complete the ship goal and you could be flying the Millennium Falcon ! Planning Ahead There was a fair amount of excitement over Restoration Games bringing this beloved game into the modern day. Regardless of how you feel about apps and electronics in your board game, Return to Dark Tower balances feeling familiar and intriguingly new. The centerpiece tower brings a literal and figurative elevation to the game experience. Whether Dark Tower was an old flame or a new discovery, there’s lots to love about this game.Return to Dark Tower took its roots and delved them deeper, offering something thematically satisfying for fantasy and co-op fans. Each boss edges their way into the world, making the board feel like a true map detailing corruption and plight. With interesting characters, creative dungeons to delve into, and skulls falling from the sky, this game lives and breathes in its own unique world. Traveling across the Core can save you a lot of time, but it also comes with some risk. The Core Worlds are under the control of the Empire, and if you have negative reputation with the Imperials, then you can expect some difficulty when flying across the Core.
