So I loved the original Roadhawks and I did write a blog review last year. So I couldn’t wait until I got my hands on the new Roadhawk FF2. I was very interested to see if this new version was any better? I loved the old model and had quite a lot of pairs. I used them in my speed sessions and my races where they provided me with 5k, 10 miler and Half marathon PB’S. Independent research by the Motoring Industry Research Association (MIRA) has shown that tyres with 3mm of tread have an average 25% better performance than those at 1.6mm. This represents an extra 8 metres of stopping distance in wet conditions! Not an easy task to be fair as the seventies output provided many of the classic moments of the Hawkwind catalogue and in hindsight could be considered their early peak on which they didn’t always build.

Today’s CD is “Roadhawks” by Hawkwind. Originally issued in 1976, “Roadhawks” has just been reissued in a remastered form on CD & vinyl by Cherry Red Records on Hawkind’s Atomhenge label. I have got the CD – and I made a mistake, I have got 23 Hawkwind albums (Including one “Hawklords” CD and I had always assumed that “Roadhawks” was a live album. It isn’t. What it is, is a compilation album but a very good one. Having different tread-depth or types of tyres on the same axle of your car could provide an unequal level of rolling resistance and grip, which will affect how it steers, grips and stops. I wonder if that was a mistake? We can vouch for the longevity of Hawkwind having recently witnessed a striking performance in Manchester on their 50th anniversary tour (our review here).The second number is the tyre’s height, as a percentage of the width (in this case, 60). If the second number is 50 or less, then the tyre can be considered ‘low profile’. For once, there’s a notable absence of extended explorations of mind-expanding astonishing music but plenty of the amazing sounds in short bursts. As Hawkwind head beyond their fiftieth anniversary with new music that’s carried on waves of their trademark sound, Roadhawks gives us a warm burst of nostalgia.

The Roadhawks felt even more comfortable which was a good sign. A feature I found which was important was that the grip underneath was much better and replaced the old one which I found slippery in wet conditions. The grip is the same as the Dynaflyte so this is a massive improvement from the last model. Better grip means you can run faster.
