About this deal

The OMEGA Speedmaster is one of the most well-known timepieces in the world. With the launch of the Moonswatch last year, OMEGA and Swatch have reimagined the cult timepiece that is the Speedmaster. The Moonswatch has been on everyone’s lips since it launched – in part due to its affordable price and not least due to its exclusivity as a hard-to-find product at Swatch Stores. To change the bracelet of your Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch watch, you’ll need a spring bar tool with a special 1 mm fork, that fits in the openings of the bracelet, for example, the Bergeon 6767 spring bar tool. If you want to know, how you install a NATO band on your Omega watch read our article All you need to know about NATO straps. Photos were taken by our brand ambassadors Sascha Venturi ( www.saschaventuri.com, @doesnotcountbut), @gulenissen and @jensb1954– Thank you for the awesome pictures of our straps on your Omega!

At ZULUDIVER we had wanted to develop an authentic Moonwatch strap for some time and early in 2022 we released the ZULUDIVER LUNAR strap. Early models sold out and the strap is now on its third production run! We undertook extensive research studying original NASA blueprints and numerous vintage photographs of astronauts to get our product as accurate as possible yet functional for daily use. Modelled on our planets, there are 11 watch models and HIRSCH has straps to match every Moonswatch, so you can combine your new piece with elegant and sporty looks alike. Whether you’re looking to replace a broken watch strap or switch up your look for any occasion – at HIRSCH you’ll find a wide range of matching straps for your Moonswatch. MOONSWATCH STRAPS IN A RICH VARIETY OF COLOURS & MATERIALS If you are not familiar with these radical co-branded gems from Omega and Swatch, here is a brief introduction. The MoonSwatch family looks like Speedmasters and even has Omega and Speedmaster written on them. However, appearances can be deceptive. The 42mm case is not steel but an ultra-light Bioceramic material which is one third responsibly sourced plastic and two thirds ceramic. The result is an incredibly light watch weighing only 29g. The hands, pushers and the tachymeter scale are thoroughly Speedmaster in appearance with hour, minute and chronograph markers coated with Super-Luminova. Unlike the original Speedmaster which is in limited colour palates, the USP of the MoonSwatch (other than its price) is that they are produced in eleven striking colours, each one inspired by a different planet in our solar system. Your chosen planet, for example Saturn, appears on the rear battery hatch which covers the ETA V8 quartz movement. Just like the Omega Speedmaster, the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch lug width is 20 mm, which is the most common lug width. More about how to find out which band size your watch needs here. How do I change the bracelet or strap on my MoonSwatch? All of the eleven MoonSwatch models pay tribute to one of the planetary bodies in our Solar System, as seen with their case and dial colors. The models that will catch your eye the most are probably the Mission to the Sun and Mission to Neptune. The former shines in a bright, lemon yellow, while the Neptune model stands out with its rich blue hues. When the Omega Speedmaster was selected by NASA for spaceflight, no matter what the mission or watch model, the one thing all flown watches had in common was their deployment on a bespoke NASA issue Velcro strap.

The Omega x Swatch Moonswatch is a stunning piece that will be a great addition to your wristwatch collection if you do not have any high expectations. Only one thing you need to reconsider is if you are expecting a luxury watch, this is probably not your cup of tea. Omega x Swatch Moonswatch has standard 20mm watch lug width, which means finding a replacement watch band in the market is easy. Can you still wait to get your Moonswatch to explore the possibilities?

What about you?

As you would expect from ZULUDIVER we did not compromise on quality with the strap being made from high strength slanted nylon using a unique shuttleless weaving process which offers superior friction resistance and colour retention. The military grade non-fray hook and loop fastening system is hypoallergenic and will work in temperatures as low as -30 degrees. It should securely open and close more than 5000 times. The matt, corrosion resistant, steel loop is embossed with the ZULUDIVER name. The Bioceramic Swatch innovation comes after the manufacturer launched its bio-sourced Swatch in September 2020. The final pairing today is for the controversial Mission To Neptune. Why is it controversial? Well, you may have seen a few people complaining about the blue BioCeramic case leaving some blue residue on their wrists. There’s no hiding this, and it does happen. Ben’s Mission To Neptune in the photos was no exception, and it “blued” his wrist too. Despite this, the Mission To Neptune is a great-looking watch, and it probably wouldn’t be enough to put me off. I understand some people may not be too keen, however.

Like pastel tones? Then be sure to have a look at the Mission to Uranus or Mission to Venus, in light blue and powder pink, respectively. The Venus model also features oval-shaped subdials that have tiny ornamentation within their outer rings, giving this model an extra-playful feel compared to the others in the collection. Mission to Pluto – It might not be a planet any more, but Pluto’s watch stands out with a white case, tan dial, and red bezel and subdials. Swatch introduced its first-ever BIOCERAMIC Swatch - BIG BOLD - made from a material that's a mix of ceramic and bio-sourced plastic in 2021. The 47mm Big Bold Chrono Extravehicular is the second collection of the bioceramic NASA and reflects NASA's Advanced Crew Escape Suit, which astronauts wear on their ascent into space; because of its bright orange hue, it is referred to as the pumpkin suit. With the Mission to Mars and Mission to Jupiter, Swatch draws on design elements from the sought-after "Alaska Project" and "Ultraman" Moonwatch models. The Mission to Mars case is a fiery red, just like the thermal shield on the "Alaska I" from 1969. Swatch designers also borrowed from the Alaska I for the dial on the Mission to Mars, which is white with brash red chronograph hands. These even have the same shape as those found on the Alaska I, which were reminiscent of the Gemini spacecraft that carried American astronauts into space.

As the star of this collection is the bright sun, the manufacturers chose the color gold to represent the planet. While the bracelet, glass, and loops are made from bio-sourced plastic, they are 100% natural and contain no chemicals. It is made of a ceramic material that can keep your skin cool for hours, even when the outside temperature reaches over 53°C. It is a product to help those constantly exposed to heat. The first special feature that strikes us is the case material: Bioceramic. This material is a revolutionary innovation by Swatch that combines ceramic and bio-sourced plastic to create a highly durable and eco-friendly material. This new hybrid material is as durable and at the same time it is smooth and comfortable to wear on the wrist.

Now, I know this is just four of the 11 MoonSwatch Models, but we don’t have the complete set between the team. With that in mind, I’d love to hear from the Fratelli who own their own MoonSwatches. Have you swapped out your strap? If so, what did you go for? Let me know in the comments! Mission to Saturn – A tan case with a dark brown bezel and subdials and “rings” around the bottom subdial. Omega x Swatch Moonwatch, change watch band to a Nato watch strap. Image credit : captured from video of DigitalFux 4K When you get a new watch, you want to strap it on and start enjoying it as soon as possible. Knowing you want to replace the strap right away and not having the replacement on hand can dampen the “New Watch Alert” fun somewhat. I’ve been there before, leaving some watches for days or even weeks until I had the right strap. Thankfully, when my Mission To Mercury arrived, I had the strap waiting on my desk, ready to go. Knowing I’m not alone and that a fair few others have expressed their preference for a different strap, I thought I’d put together a few options I’d seen, which I thought looked like good alternative strap options for the MoonSwatch. I don’t have options for every Mission here, so let me know in the comments if you have some suggestions. Sharing is caring!
