About this deal

A ready to use blend of selected sand, cement and additives formulated for fixing wooden, concrete and metal posts. When choosing a cold-lay tarmac grade you should consider three main things: the type of surface you’re repairing, size of the reinstatement and weather conditions at the time of application. Q1: What type of surface are you repairing? One bag will usually cover 0.4m2 at 30mm depth. Use a heavy flat object to help compact the cold lay macadam. Just as there are many different types of surfaces to repair, there are many different grades of cold-lay tarmacs to match. Tough Patch is a great example. Containing an innovative reactive binder, Tough Patch can cure within an hour after sprinkling water across each layer during application.

So when you need to make small tarmac repairs to your drive you want something you can easily handle yourself. Something that is cold and easy to use. This is where tarmac repair bags come in. Tiling Adhesives & Grouts We offer a range of tiling adhesives, grouts & silicone for installing porcelain, glass, cement, marble, mosaic, granite and limestone tiles securely to your walls. Our tile adhesives and grouts are heat, mould and water resistant and perfect for fitting tiles in your bathroom or kitchen. Follow the links to find out more about each of these products so you can easily decide which one is best for the job at hand. Follow the steps above for small pothole fixes, applying layers of the cold-lay formula as directed in the manufacturer’s instructions. Why cold joint spray is recommended Commonly, a bag of cold-lay tarmac may go hard before use if the bag was placed at the bottom of a pallet, making it a little more compacted under the pressure of the other bags. It may have also been stored on a cold floor.Essentially, there are three grades of cold-lay tarmac. A 3mm grade of smallest aggregate (as in Permanent Pothole Repair, also known as PPR) a 6mm grade of aggregate and a 10mm grade containing larger aggregate. If the tarmac is severely damaged, or the potholes are quite large, we recommend removing the top 6mm layer of the damaged tarmac and laying a new 6mm topping. The new layer will then bond more easily to the surface below. Whether you’re doing extensive surface repairs on a commercial scale or fixing the odd pothole in a driveway, it’s best to choose the right cold-lay tarmac for the job.

There are other makes that come with a cold bitumen sealant, also known as a tarmac repair kit. With these you ideally need to square off the area to be patched and dig down until you get to firm ground. Then you apply the sealant to the bottom and sides of the area to be patched. And then you put the contents of the bag into the hole and flatten down with a spade. The cold bitumen sealant seals the bottom and sides of the hole after you patch it. This prevents water from getting in and damaging the underlying foundation. Strictly speaking patching holes in your driveway with this method is the tried and tested way of patching potholes. It should therefore last longer… but there are some amazing products on the market today so it is best to ask around. Tom shares, “The size of the reinstatement, combined with the type of surface and whether you need a temporary or permanent repair, will give you an idea about what type of cold-lay asphalt you need.” If the pot hole or required tarmac is going to be deeper than 30mm, it is advised you lay it in 2 stages, ensure the first layer is compact tightly before laying a second layer on top. After prolonged storage, it may be necessary to expose the bag of the Cold Lay Macadam to direct sunlight for 1-2 hours prior to opening to loosen the material and restore workability. Please avoid using this item outside when the temperature is below 50c or if there has been recent heavy rain. Once the cold lay macadam is laid, it is advised that a little dust or dry sand is brushed over the top to help prevent fresh material lifting whilst it sets.
