About this deal

Like its predecessor, the V1 Gen2’s laser detection ability remains unmatched and this capability should never be discounted as I have personally benefited from advanced detection warnings of laser when another vehicle ahead of me was being targeted. VOICE ALERTS - Voice alerts allow for hands-free operation and provide clear communication. Voice Alerts are programable to fit your style so you can keep your eyes on the road with no distractions. Laser tends to get easier to detect when one drives with lighter colored vehicles having sloped hoods because of reflections from the hood tend to be more easily “seen” by the laser sensor so those results are subjected to improving further. Overall we were pleased with the R8’s laser detection, although we always would like more. Given below are some more features that help this radar stand out and provide a better user experience when driving. SPECTRE Immunity

Then with 35.5, the R8 once again trailed a bit behind some detectors like the RL360c, V1 Gen2, and R4, but it outperformed the R7 and naturally the DP360. It was the R7 that surprised me by falling behind more than the very top tier detectors. I'm not sure I like how the mute/mark buttons are now on the front of the R8, as I rarely use these and IMHO looks less clean. I suppose if you use them a lot then it's a nice change. This design does appear to obscure, somewhat, the rear-facing laser sensor because of the height differential of the front of the case to the rear where the sensor is mounted. Now let’s compare the laser sensitivity of Uniden R7 Vs R8. The Uniden R7 has a longer overall range than the R8 with its Laser Eye feature, which helps to detect laser signals from all directions.

Complimenting the Auto Sensitivity mode is the undeniable range and reliability of the Uniden R8, a key characteristic of the unit’s dual LNA design. On my daily drive in the Detroit metro, it’s not uncommon to see the Michigan State Police, the Oakland and Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies, and other local police patrols, depending on what suburb you are going through. All run a combination of constant-on or instant-on Ka radar (at the time of this writing, the State of Michigan has a contractwith DBA Stalker Radar & Video). Like other Escort detectors that come with the “C” moniker, the Redline 360c comes standard with both WIFI and bluetooth connectivity which allows for updates to firmware without need to connect to a computer, a nice feature. The R8 may be undetectable in certain instances, but it’s not consistently or reliably stealthy. It is stealthier than detectors like the Max 360c that aren’t designed with RDD immunity in mind, but it’s not as stealthy as some other detectors like the Redline 360c or V1 Gen2 that are also designed to be undetectable. The Uniden R8 debuted at CES 2022 as the upgrade to the popular R7. Like the Uniden R4 (the upgrade for the R3), the R8 is built on a new platform with two Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA) to increase detection range. Uniden also added an Auto Mute Memory feature and an Auto Sensitivity mode to the R8, both of which are convenient while driving in heavy traffic. Can display actual frequencies of police radar (good for distinguishing real police radar from non-police radar)

An impressively long-range detector with automated features for ultimate ease of use and a mostly quiet ride On a typical 2 hour highway drive, I get maybe just 5 falses or so on average. I’m pretty satisfied with that. The Uniden R8 includes a built-in GPS, which determines your geographic location and then identifies “set frequency locations” in your area from a database. Set frequency locations often include things like red light and speed cameras. New PlatformFor a great price, this feature-rich device stays mostly quiet around false alerts and is great for the urban setting When you encounter an alert you know to be false, press the Mute/Dim button on the front of the unit or the Mute button on the power cord. You will then see “Mute On” appear on the display. Press one of the buttons again to save that GPS location and frequency to the R8’s memory. When you pass that location again, the R8 will display the alert and the frequency on the OLED display, but it won’t make a sound.

The Uniden R8 is an impressive new radar detector. It’s been my daily driver since November and I’ve been enjoying it so much that even after finishing beta testing and creating this Uniden R8 review, I continue choosing the R8 as my go-to radar detector of choice. Preloaded Red Light and Speed Camera locations with Free Database and Firmware updates ensures your detector will never be out of date. For those wishing to reduce the clutter of electronics in their vehicle, the Escort MAXcam 360c is a worthy offering that no longer requires its owner to compromise performance with a combined dash cam and radar detector. The GPS database is currently version 1.47. This was released earlier this year and is available from the links above. In any event, the Uniden R8 builds upon the already extreme performance of the Uniden R7 and provides its driver with as much sensitivity one could ever desire.

Analysis and Test Results

User testing [ 1]revealed that even though the R8 is not fully undetectable, it does well most of the time. The results are quite variable and also depend on the filtering mode you have on. If you want something that is 100% stealth, then you should go with the V1 Gen2 or Redline 360c. We don’t have any hesitation in continuing to take it on our long trips or recommending it to others. Uniden R8 Review Supercharging the Uniden R7 makes the Uniden R8 the best directional radar detector we’ve ever driven with. In my twenties, my radar detector was a must. Now, I don't even get a second glance while shamelessly neglecting posted speed limits. Hell, some of the local police even wave at me. I had one recently, who I thought was going to pull me over; just happened to be going to the same place I was and then talked to me in the parking lot about how much he liked my car.
