About this deal
With a new subclass as well as several new backgrounds and feats, Glory of the Giants makes it easy to build characters that are larger-than-life in memorability even if not in stature. All updates are being done with care to make sure anything from fifth edition will continue to be fully playable. Here Bigby and the demigod Diancastra, child of the giants’ All-Father, Annam, unveil the secrets of Annam’s mighty descendants. Adds giant-themed player character options where adventurers can evoke the glory of giants with 1 new barbarian subclass, explore the vast world of giants with 2 new backgrounds, and unlock 8 new feats to unleash runic magic and wield elemental power. The most interesting twist on the formula comes in the ability to invoke an inscribed rune without using a spell slot or material components with the side effect of locking out use of the spell until the next long rest.
Chapter 6: Bestiary: The final chapter of the book features over 70 new monster stat blocks, including death giants, gargantua, ettin variants, elemental hulks, undead giants and even kaiju. Also, for reasons unclear to me, there’s a Cheshire cat (don’t get me wrong, it’s neat, I’m just not sure why this is the book it showed up in). The selection of possibilities connects to various types of giant, with cloud, fire, frost, hill, stone, and storm strikes available. Path of the Giant barbarians can also fool around out of combat, with the third-level ability to learn the druidcraft or thaumaturgy cantrip opening up creative possibilities that other DnD barbarians might not be able to access. Most notably, many of these types of giants were front and center as the primary antagonists in the 2016 campaign book The Storm King’s Thunder. Hill Giants: Arguably, the weakest and least intelligent giants, they can be quick to anger and often roam the wilds.
Over the years, Bigby has appeared in countless game supplements, trading cards and novels, but is perhaps best known for the spell Bigby’s Hand, which allows the summoner to create a massive glowing hand made of pure energy that can be used to attack enemies. Rune Carvers are better for characters focusing on an intellectual and artistic approach, with proficiencies in History and Perception and a set of artisan's tools. Each of these runes is associated with spells that have already been introduced in DnD 5e — the Death rune allows players to cast inflict wounds, for example, while the Fire rune gives spellcasters the power of burning hands. Glory of the Giants amply succeeds at being a GM-focused book that fleshes out the history and social structure of the giants, providing tools to help the DM make better giant-focused adventures and also more reasons for the DM to want to create more giant-focused adventures. There’s also a lot of effort to expand on the giant’s larger cultural structure, pushing them towards something a bit more than being big plus one obsession per giant type.Purchasing this bundle unlocks the Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants book in digital format in the game compendium with all the artwork and maps, cross-linking, and tooltips. Chapter 3: Giant Adventures: This section will offer a variety of options and advice for DMs when it comes to running giant-themed encounters, adventures and DnD 5e campaigns. That book provided players and DMs with an in-depth view of all-things related to dragons, including a number of new races, spells, magic items and adventure ideas.
Perhaps the most fun feature that Path of the Giant barbarians can employ on the battlefield is Mighty Impel, which allows them to hurl smaller creatures to other spaces within range. Players will find a wealth of giant-themed character options: a subclass for barbarians, two backgrounds related to giants and their runic magic, and feat options that evoke the strength and primal magic of the giants. Delves into unrevealed giant lore, including an overview of the hierarchical structure of the ordning and giants’ religion, and ideas about giants’ organizations and societies across the multiverse.Adds giant-themed player character options where adventurers can evoke the glory of giants with new subclasses, backgrounds and feats. Although it might seem like a book focusing on giants might only be useful for characters with giant blood in their veins, the new options don't only apply to firbolgs and goliaths. As you might guess from the length, these enclaves are presented as sources of ideas, rather than complete encounters.
