About this deal

While that job traditionally falls to the most cantankerous Ork in the immediate vicinity, in this case it’s the one with the largest collection of skulls and the cosiest fur coat. Their trait remains pretty much unchanged from the 8th edition book – it gives them light cover against ranged attacks made from more than 18” away, and they can shoot or charge (pick one) after falling back. Don’t assume that anything you used to use is still here without checking, and front and centre among those that will be missed is Unstoppable Green Tide.

There’s clearly something of a trade down here, as losing the incredible re-rolls hurts, but on the flip side plenty of units now already have a 6+ invulnerable save thanks to the Beast Snaggas, and the Objective Secured on things like Kommandos and Storm Boyz is as great as ever. Prior to the Eldar codex release, GW paraded a load of new models past our eyes, including the brand new Avatar of Khaine, Maugan Ra, Shining Spears, and Warlocks models –plus a stream of of new rules previews for the faction’s Phoenix Lords, Dark Reaper and Howling BansheeAspect Warriors, and iconic Shuriken weapons.Yes, Deathskulls just have that all the time, but the combo of switching off ObSec and gaining it yourself is a very good one for obvious reasons. Hot on the heels of the two most powerful codexes we’ve seen in 9th edition, Codex Orks releases this weekend. I’m concerned that we’re going to be in the same boat as we were with Drukhari Raiders after their jump to T6 here, where taking lists that lean hard into Ramshackle off the table is going to require incredibly skewed lists that may find themselves easy prey to everything else in the metagame.

Rokkit launchas, rokkit kannons and kustom mega-blastas get more shots and that all-important Blast keyword. Death Guard players had to wait months longer than planned, but when the codex did come, it came along with some extra goodies – primarily the long-teased and fundamentally foul Lord of Virulence model, and a Death Guard Combat Patrol starter box – the first of its kind for a Chaos army. Loads of you have already signed up to watch all the cool new animations and hobby shows, devour all the unlocked lore, and choose your awesome new exclusive miniature. It’s also possible you’ll mix up both – the power of Deathskulls is more concentrated in their Kultur than the wider options, so an army with a Sunz Warlord and a Deathskulls add-on detachment seems moderately plausible. New rules in this latest codex include the powerful Harbingers of Dreaddebuffs, and the option to dedicate your mighty mechs to one of the Chaos Gods, getting their keyword and a gnarly new ability as thanks for your service. For instance, Ghazghkull’s already-spectacular Mork’s Roar goes from Assault 12 to Dakka 16/12 – a significant uptick. This huge volume contains 61 new and revamped datasheets, and includes new rules for Crusade campaigns, Relics, Stratagems, Psychic Disciplines, and seven clans, including the piratical Freebooterz. Gorkanaut or is it Morkanaut– these amazing baby stompas have now moved to the lords of war slot and the Gorkanauts mega shoota is now dakka 30/20 with a 36 inch range….
