About this deal

Get Lifted, Elevate Your Sound, Bring Your Mics to Life, All Gain No Pain and Cloud Cam are trademarks ™ of Cloud Microphones. I pulled the JS-2 and CL-1 out of the circuit and recorded ambient noise with a single mic, a single 122' cable run, and the Mackie. Burl Audio, under the direction of owner/designer Rich Williams, has developed some of the best new recording equipment over the last eight years.

However, you may not even want to upgrade if you aren’t trying to coordinate an entire multi-speaker podcast—this unit works really well on its own. In another interesting situation, the Cloudlifter saw some action running a mic some 75 ft or so outside to the front of the studio for one particular vocal take. It would be nicer to be able to make that change permanent, since EZdrummer only works correctly on C1. Although you can change the plug-in to output from, for example, C3 to C1, it will default back to C3 every time you use the plug-in. In fact, I used it extensively in my recent podcast microphone shootout, because it let me run my DAW inputs comfortably in the middle of their gain range, leaving plenty of headroom for matching gain across microphones.Massively popular with users of large diaphragm mics such as the Shure SM7B, Electrovoice RE20, RE320, Sennheiser MD421 and more.

The new CL-1 seems to be immune to this problem — I tried it with Cloud’s beautiful JRS-34 passive ribbon mic, before and after a 30' run of very questionable cable, and heard no RF noise in either configuration. Recording into a DAW interface, performing live on stage, producing a podcast, using long cable runs in the studio, miking soft sound sources and using noisy or low gain preamps are just a few of its many uses.

However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. The gain boost provided by your Cloudlifter lets your mic pre work more efficiently, giving you the levels you need, without the noise. Rovito, I think both those condensers would be excellent for picking up mouth sounds, breath noise, and plosives. The CL-1 Cloudlifter is perfect for someone who only needs one microphone, or as a stopgap for a more comprehensive preamp or interface.
