Launched in late 2008 to replace the previous 12 year old, this single malt from the Dalmore distillery is a toasty, coffee-rich dram with beautifully spice notes and a thick mouthfeel. It has been aged in ex-bourbon American white oak casks before being transferred to aged tawny port pipes, resulting in a luxurious whisky with layers of complexity. The palate carries a lace-y quality combining rich barrel flavors with a backbone of toasted cereals. The nose is full citrus fruit, chocolate and aromatic spice, the palate has warm Seville orange and dried fruit notes and hints of vanilla pod. In 1839 Alexander Matheson purchased Ardross Farm and opened a distillery, overlooking the Cromarty firth.
