About this deal
All of our dogs are 100% from imported lines. It took us many years to develop the lines of dogs that we now have. More than half the initial dogs we imported either did not pass all necessary health tests or they did not meet our very high expectations with regard to temperament or looks. We don’t settle for mediocrity.
Having a girl in season is much easier than most people envision and there will only be one season to deal with. The reward is a longer life for your dog with less chance of cancer and hip dysplasia.
No, none of our dogs have ever shown any signs of allergies or any other type of skin condition nor have any of the studs that we use with the exception of our Jessie. Jessie has a very mild case of ichthyosis but no other skin problems or allergies. Even with a lot of summer swimming, none of our other dogs have any type of skin problems whatsoever. Skin conditions and allergies do have a genetic component, but healthy food is also important in keeping any dog’s skin and coat looking good. 25. I read that you require girl puppies to not be spayed until they are over a year old. How do I manage having a girl in season? Some time between 8 1/2 and the time puppies leave us, we will do a short video of each puppy going through their training exercises. First of all, our dogs live as part of our family in our home and on our 14-acre property. Summer Brook puppies are raised in a home environment where someone is home with them most of the time. I take my boys out quite a lot around other dogs and at shows sometimes there are girls in season. My boys have on occasion been growled at by other unneutered boys, but they’ve never retaliated. They don’t cower either…..just walk away. It has never been any problem for me whatsoever.
We have done well with our older dogs in the conformation ring earning a wide variety of impressive titles. However, for our younger dogs, we have decided to concentrate our efforts in the obedience ring. We prioritize temperament and health over looks. However, all of our dogs are still beautiful and they come from long lines of conformation champions. We have raised two litters at the same time on many occasions. On one occasion, we had three litters to overlap. On one other occasion, we raised four litters that overlapped. However, at that time, we had extra help. It is rare for us to raise more than 5 litters in a full year and even more rare for us to raise more than 2 litters at a time.
Families getting Summer Brook puppies can be assured of a quality well-socialized puppy for several reasons. European Type Golden Retrievers Who are a Part of Our Family The two girls below are the mothers of our next generation girls. These two girls are full sisters (though from different litters). Both of them exemplify our goal in breeding: super structure and health coupled with top notch biddable, smart, and loving temperaments. Both dogs are calm in the house while loving to work when away from home. These girls are both beautiful to boot!In recent years, we’ve had three dogs to complete Canadian Championships, one dog to complete an OTCH (the very highest obedience titles), three dogs to receive AKC UD titles (another hard to get obedience title), two dogs to earn a Rally Obedience CH title (RACH), and all of our dogs have received multiple other obedience titles. Piper is now living with friends in New Mexico. We hear from her family often. Tara is retired and will be staying with us at Summer Brook as one of my obedience partners. No, we don’t. There is an on-going debate on whether dew claws are best left intact or removed at 2 to 3 days of age. Those in favor of their removal claim that they are useless and only serve as something to get caught and ripped off. Because puppies are matched to families shortly after 6 1/2 weeks of age, we spend considerable time taking pictures at 6 1/2 weeks with at least 3 individual labeled shots of each puppy. In this last set of pictures, there will be at least one picture of every puppy standing and/or sitting on the ground as well as a close up face shot. No, for several reasons. Most families do not have enough time to give individual time to each puppy. In addition, most do not have a set up that facilitates keeping the puppies separated an adequate amount of time. Without a LOT of individual attention and separation, 2 puppies will tend to bond too heavily with each other. Sometimes it causes separation anxiety. Other times, it causes puppies to become too “doggy” bonding more heavily with each other than their owners. Over the years, we’ve been able to selectively improve our program focusing primarily on temperament while at the same time maintaining good health and good looks. Proven Beauty as Well as Incredible Temperaments We have on occasion studded out our boys to established breeders with good reputations on bitches with proof of all health clearances and with strong pedigrees. However, we are currently only in a position to offer frozen semen. We never offer our boys out for stud via a natural breeding and we currently aren’t in a position to offer fresh chilled. 35. What do you think about breeder XYZ?
We do not do extra pictures for those wanting special pictures beyond what is posted nor do we do videos of puppies under 8 weeks. Our primary focus is the puppies themselves. 33. What kind of vaccines do you recommend? We at Summer Brook Golden Retrievers breed and train what is commonly referred to in the U.S. as English Cream Golden Retrievers. We are English Golden Retriever breeders who strive to produce only the very best representatives of the breed with regard to health, temperament, and appearance. All of our adult dogs are titled in obedience. Our older adult dogs are titled in conformation as well. We’ve health tested all our dogs and received good to excellent results. After health, our primary focus is producing puppies with good temperaments. Then we put those genetically sound puppies through a puppy raising program that can’t be beat. Most Goldens from European lines have their first cycles somewhere between 10 and 15 months of age. The first sign of heat is a small bloody discharge. Many dogs will keep themselves clean. Others may leave tiny drops of blood.Doggy diapersare easy to find and protect floors. Even if your dog comes in season before you realize it, the blood doesn’t stain hardwood or tile even if left for a full day. The heat will last about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks with the fertile period not coming for at least 5 or 6 days (usually closer to 10-12 days). During the fertile period, you’ll need to keep your dog inside 100% of the time unless you are out with her. We feel that this is a minor inconvenience lasting 18-21 days and is a small sacrifice to give a dog a longer, healthier life. 26. What about an unneutered boy? I’ve heard that they are more prone to fight and have behavior problems?
