About this deal

Come meet the swooniest/grumpiest Miles brother, Elliot Miles. Vee & Hayley discuss this enemies to lovers story that had them throwing their kindles.

This book is told from PK's first person POV. And while in practice not at all like Alexis Hall's Arden St Ives character, Ardy and PK are a similar ball of frenetic energy that had me both exhausted and anxious. And even when I was angry at PK and shouting "you idiot, WTF are you doing?" I was also really, really rooting for him. It's supposed to be best friends to lovers, but there were large chunks of the book where I was convinced that while Art was PK's best friend, PK was not Art's. (It didn't help that you have Art telling PK in Chapter 1 that he came to PK's after his breakup because "You're the only person I know in the city who has a spare bedroom." And apparently they've barely even seen each other for over a year because Art was living with a boyfriend who didn't like PK. What kind of friendship is that supposed to be??) At one point, I genuinely thought PK's delusions about his and Art's friendship were going to be part of the storyline. Spider is supposed to marry sweet, beautiful Lili. So why can’t he stop thinking about her swamp witch of an aunt?Atlas is seriously a god as Alyssa would characterize him. His patience and control knew no bounds and his love for Lily took my breath away. There are only a handful of interactions over an 8-month period that have even a hint of Art caring for PK in *any* way at all, and we witness maybe two handfuls of interactions between them total, most of which show Art as completely dismissive of PK. It feels like a friendship Art is over on anything but a surface level, like Art is still friendly with PK and certainly sees him as roommate material but not much beyond that. I could even understand how they got to this place, since you get the impression that PK's emotional constipation over his feelings for Art caused them to drift apart -- not because Art realized it, but because it caused PK to practically shut down around Art since he couldn't figure out how to say what he really wanted so he ended up not saying much at all -- but mostly it just made me really sad. This man YEARNS for his queen and will grovel and repent and turn his life upside down just to be in the same room as her. This book was so good. I SO enjoyed it, I read it all in one sitting within hours of being approved for it, staying up until 2am to get it done. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my husband and all, but he knows not to get between me and my book boyfriends.

And while I think it would be easy to perceive the ending of this book to be anticlimactic, I think it was actually perfect. Because real communication, talking like actual adults, is IRL far and away more romantic than some empty gesture. I liked the side characters, they felt like real people, especially Wade and Ray. I found Wade especially interesting and the weird relationship he has with his parents around his queerness. The situation is beyond complicated. Zach never even knew he’d fathered a child until recently, and he wants to earn his son’s trust and respect.Prince Tristan from STOLEN SONGBIRD by Danielle L. Jensen (Thanks Melissa Robles, you know my tastes!) So when Matt offers to help her with the bus and in the bedroom with no strings attached, Lane’s feelings evolve faster than you can say “just good friends.” Okay, how can you not love the High Lord and ruler of the Night Court? Sarah J Maas really knows how to write her men, and that’s why she’s taken up four spots on this list. When you get down to #6 on this list, that man was at the top of my list for the longest time until Rhys came along. Maybe it’s the purple eyes… I dunno guys, something about him is just so incredibly dreamy. #4: Hunt Athalar, from Crescent City, by Sarah J Maas
