Earlier this week, the Proud Boys appropriated Fred Perry’s signature Laurel Wreath emblem to advertise a rally in Oregon. Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes – who co-founded VICE, but left in 2008 and has had no affiliation with the company since then – once explained his aim in wearing the polo was to “align his group with the working-class toughness of the late-60s hard mods”. The British clothes maker said it was 'incredibly frustrating' that the far-right group, who believe white men and western values are 'under siege', had been 'appropriated' by the Proud Boys. The skinheads originally denounced fascism and many described themselves as apolitical - rather focusing on class and music tastes. Frankly we can’t put our disapproval in better words than our chairman [John Flynn] did when questioned in 2017,” the label said in its statement.
