Benji Lewis, an interior designer, says on decoration: "Whilst red, white and blue are clearly patriotic and you won’t be letting the side down by using these on your tabletop, the Coronation is clearly a massively rare and regal moment so bear that in mind when you consider things." The tower of the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral will be illuminated red, white and blue to mark the historic occasion, while the interior will be full of flowers, with tea parties, live screenings and special services. Free, 6-8 May, elycathedral.org Eileen Hogan has been commissioned to paint the Coronation Service itself from within Westminster Abbey. She is the first woman to have been appointed in this role. Hogan is Emeritus Professor at the University of the Arts London, a Trustee of the Royal Drawing School and an Ambassador for the Salvesen Mindroom Centre.
The church is holding a special Royal tea party on Monday, May 8. There will be lots of activities for all ages, including raffle prizes, tombola, bouncing castle, face painting, craft corner, and design your own crown. Entry is free. Paul Benney will paint Her Majesty’s Coronation State Portrait. Benney has twice won the Public Choice award in the National Portrait Gallery’s BP Portrait Awards. Previous work with the Royal Household includes ‘The Last of the Tide: Portraits of D-Day Veterans’ (2015), ‘Seven Portraits: Surviving the Holocaust’ (2022) and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (2015). The Coronation processions, the ceremony and the Coronation concert will all be caught in art to become a permanent record of the weekend of historic celebrations.Colmonell Community Association. The artworks are by Indian born British artist Hormazd Narielwalla. If you want a nice even surface on which to create the flag or your child's skin is dark, applying a white base coat can help it show up more vividly and stand out more. This step creates a 'canvas' for the red and blue stripes. However, it's entirely optional.
A traditional British pub garden is opening up in the heart of the Covent Garden Piazza, specially for the King’s Coronation. Art installations, special Coronation-themed menus and street bunting will be laid out for the occasion. There will be daily entertainment too, and the garden opens early from, 21 April so you can pop by another day if you’re busy on the actual Coronation. Decorations will extend from the Market Building in the centre of the Piazza right down to the Seven Dials and there will be specially commissioned street art to wander past. From 21 April
