About this deal

For the money, I seriously doubt there’s any dial that comes even close to that level. And there probably isn’t. Availability

Seiko 5 SNXS79 | Ref. SNXS79 Watches on Chrono24

The Seiko SNXS79K's case is waterproof for up to 30 meters. While not adequate for scuba diving, its 30m water resistance should withstand splashes and light precipitation. However, since its crown doesn’t screw down, swimming with the watch isn’t recommended. Seiko usually understates its cases' water resistance, so even if you forget to remove it when going for a swim, the watch should be fine, so long as you aren’t scuba diving or doing laps. There are also some similar Seiko 5 variants you may want to consider if you’re already looking at the SNXS79. It doesn’t take much sunlight to charge it, either. Just a few minutes standing in direct sunlight and the lume will be fully charged and ready to go. Seriously, looks amazing. I also wasn’t a fan of the all polished case of the SNXS79, and how easily the mineral crystal smudged up and looked ‘dirty’ from fingerprint smudges all the time (little did I know, sapphire crystals can be WORSE about this sometimes).

With its reliable mechanical movement, versatile design aesthetic, affordable price, and excellent build quality, there’s no wonder that the Seiko SNXS79Kfinds itself on the wrist of those looking for a great everyday wristwatch that looks right at home, whether as a casual everyday beater or worn as a dress watch for special occasions. What I didn’t realize at the time was that a smaller watch is actually classier and more versatile, as it’s more subtle and discreet. Some say that the recessed crown is one of the 5 features, but since not all of them have it, I’d say that’s probably not the case. Anyway, whether or not these are the actual 5 features that Seiko had in mind when naming the collection, one thing is for sure: each Seiko 5 offers more than that. They always have tended to over-deliver. The Seiko SNXS79 may often be compared to a Datejust, but I would say it is more than that. It is a flattering comparison, but the Seiko SNXS79 stands on its own by taking the best elements of several watches and interpreting it in its own unique way. This is one of the best dials you can find in a Seiko 5 and the rectangular hour markers and baton hands exude class against the brilliant sunburst grey dial. There’s probably no better alternative among Seiko 5s if you’re looking for a classic everyday watch that would still look relevant decades from now.But over time, like most other things about this watch, not only did they grow on me, but I began to appreciate them more and more. That’s why I’ve bought this same exact watch THREE times. The Final Verdict The bit of extra height does help to add a touch of extra wrist presence, though not by much. 7S26 Movement

Seiko SNXS79K: In-Depth Review of a Classic Timepiece // EDC

I thought it didn’t work, I set the time gave it a few shakes and to my amazement it works perfectly! The Seiko SNXS79 has rather unusual dimensions that, on paper, don’t really reflect how the watch wears. Let me explain. Dimensions As my appreciation for watches (and my watch collection) grew, I began to appreciate the little aspects and nuances of a watch, more. While the bracelet feels rather light and cheap, I must admit, it’s rather comfortable on the wrist.

The Seiko SNXS79 comes on a brushed bracelet with hollow end links, folded links and a stamped clasp. The bracelet feels cheap and sounds rattly, so I promptly swapped it out for a strap instead. While the 19 mm lug width may be odd, I managed to squeeze in a 20 mm leather strap. A common feature in 5s for a few decades now was a day wheel in two languages. Most had it in English and French, or English and German. Current J-suffix models have it in English and Japanese. So, I’ve no idea why my (theoretically) European market model has it in English and Arabic. I don’t know if Seiko has on purpose delivered these to Europe, or was my watch some glitch in their exports, and was meant to be sold in the Middle East. Technically, any non-JDM SNXS79 is an SNXS79K, so that’s possible. Rays reflecting in the sunburst pattern. Sunday in red – typical feature of Seiko day-date movements.
