About this deal

This is a summary, a boiling-down, a sugar-coating of a topic that frankly could have been presented in a much more academic, dry manner. Cronus (Saturn), father of Zeus, learned from Gaia and Uranus that one of his own children would overthrow him as he did his own father. Though the explanations are clear, I found I got more from this this time as I am more receptive now to the chapters that have more of an encyclopaedic feel.

For more than seven decades readers have chosen this book above all others to discover the enchanting world of mythology — from Odysseus’s adventure-filled journey to the Norse god Odin’s effort to postpone the final day of doom. This exciting new deluxe, large-format hardcover edition, published in celebration of the book's 75th anniversary, will be beautifully packages and fully-illustrated throughout with all-new, specially commissioned four-color art, making it a true collector's item. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.Edith Hamilton, nascida em 1867, pródiga aluna de literatura grega e romana, e uma autodidata admirável, formou-se em 1894 com um Major em Clássicas (que ofende o meu Minor 😁).

There is a lot of information which I preferred to read a little at a time which took almost a year to finish. For 75 years readers have chosen this book above all others to discover the thrilling, enchanting, and fascinating world of Western mythology-from Odysseus’s adventure-filled journey to the Norse god Odin’s effort to postpone the final day of doom. Edith Hamilton's Mythology succeeds like no other book in bringing to life for the modern reader the Greek, Roman, and Norse myths that are the keystone of Western culture--the stories of gods and heroes that have inspired human creativity from antiquity to the present. There are drawings by Steele Savage, some full-page (in my Mentor edition of sometime after 1970, which was at the time the forty-fourth printed of Hamilton's book, first printed in 1940. Really, not a single fuck was given as she whistled through some really great material without doing it a lick of justice.Although the myths remain unchanged, the way that we think about them has evolved considerably over the last 150 years.

Edith Hamilton may have written Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes more than a half century ago and she may have been fairly ancient when she did so, but she still put out one seriously readable book! John William Waterhouse, Echo and Narcissus, in which Echo (who can only echo what other people say) fails to save Narcissus from drowning himself while admiring his own wonderful visage. I also like how this read includes a big overview of Norse mythology and then very briefly makes a connection to Greek Myths and how both are relevant today.Mais de mil anos antes de Cristo, na orla da extremidade oriental do Mediterrâneo, havia uma grande cidade muito rica e poderosa, sem rival à superfície da Terra. I knew that before purchasing it but still somewhat a shame, that there are never revised versions that included much more Norse Mythology. The beginning starts with a great essay describing the impact of these mythologies and then talks about major Gods before telling us the stories. I have an old tattered paperback copy of this which helped guide me through the Odyssey and the Iliad. And she made the claim in one of the intros that the Greeks' mythology was different from the others, because reasons.
