About this deal
They only get like a grape or two every other month as we never have them and I don't specifically buy fruit for the pigs because they don't eat much of it when I do give them some, literally just a nibble. They tend to get a small piece to share of whatever I'm having but not frequently at all cos it only gets wasted. Here at The Pet Express we want you to enjoy every time you shop with us. Occasionally we know you may want to return items, we have tried to make our terms as clear as possible to avoid any nasty surprises. Thank-you for the tips guys. I will look in to different pellets because I do worry about what dry food they're getting at the moment and for a couple of months I've suspected wagg crunch isn't that amazing. I'll try and get a sample of the burgess food to see what they think. We used to feed our first girls gertie guinea pig food, which is similar to wagg crunch as it is different shapes and colours. It does, as you have said make them selectively eat some bits over others... Is it worth swaping? Some may say it is... I'm not so sure. The promblem with fakes is they have lots of colourings in so i wiulnt choose to feed that to our pigs now. But our girls ate Gerty guinea from day one and lived until they were 4 and 5 so it did them no harm. Wagg Twitch Guinea Pig Food is a complementary feed developed to be fed alongside your guinea pig’s normal diet of at least 85% hay or fresh grass. Harringtons Optimum Guinea Pig Food is a pellet-based food consisting of 17% protein and 17% fibre, both of which are about reasonable for a guinea pig’s daily diet. The pellet-based food helps prevent selective eating, whereby a guinea pig eats its favorite ingredients and leaves the ingredients it doesn’t like. Vitamin C is water-soluble, which means that small amounts of excess vitamin C pass through the kidneys and are safely expelled by the body as urine. It is very difficult to give a cavy too much vitamin C when feeding a combination of hay, pellets, and vegetables, although it is possible to do so if you give a liquid or powder supplement. By making sure that the food does have good vitamin C levels, you can avoid the possibility of giving too much. Hay Image Credit: Alexas_Fotos, PixabayHay is just dried grass. Unless you have a large garden and can provide your guinea pig with plenty of fresh cuttings every day, you will likely have to feed some form of dry hay. Although there are several hays available, including meadow hay and alfalfa hay, Timothy is considered the best for your pet. It has the right nutrients and an appealing texture. Not only does it provide the high fibre that your cavy needs, but its consistency and texture mean constant gnawing, which will help grind down and maintain teeth. I want to start buying bales of hay but not a clue where I'd keep it! So at the moment I get it bagged. So expensive though. But they have 24 hour access to it so they never run out, I make sure I top it up all the time Our combination of vitamins A, C & E with carefully selected trace elements help to support a healthy immune system. Guinea pigs are small, cute and like their food. We love our little pets and as their owners, we want to make sure they get the nutritional food that they need to stay healthy and happy. Unlike some pets, guinea pigs need different types of food to complete their full diet, so it’s good to know exactly what they will need every day.
Fun feeding is a great way of keeping your pet keen to eat and interested in their food. Try hiding bits of food around their enclosure space because it replicates the natural foraging experience. You can also try gnawing toys or paper bags and boxes filled with hay. There are hay tunnels for you to try, too, which offer an exciting experience for your guinea pig. If you do want to swap dry food then don't change it change in one go... Add a little of the new food to your current and decrease the old biT by bit, so you swap them over slowly.

Okay so I've been meaning to get an opinion on dry food/pellets for a while as I know how important having good quality dry food is. While hay should form the main bulk of the diet and should be in constant supply as it is needed to keep their digestive systems functioning correctly and to help keep their ever-growing teeth worn down, a guinea pig food should be fed alongside it to ensure that a complete and balanced diet is being provided. We recommend feeding a nugget based guinea pig food as these offer a nutritious diet in the form of extruded pellets, allowing your pet to take in all the necessary nutrients from the food, whereas muesli based foods tend to encourage selective feeding which can lead to nutrient deficiencies. I keep trying them with peppers and they refuse to eat them! I've even cut them up mega small and tried to combine them with other food...doesn't happen :/
